If you have never dieted for a show before how do you know how long you are supposed to diet for?

How are you supposed to know when you are ready?

typically it takes about 12 weeks depending on if you're dieting correctly and where your body fat is at the time you start. Hope this helps a little.

Usually you know you are pretty damn close when you see that first vien appear in your lower abes. If you are using a ckd you should be able to evaluate how you look at the end of your carb-up every week. As you get closer to contest condition start playing with the types, and amounts of carbs you use to carb up, along with your sodium intake to see how it effects your water weight. Also, you make want to make a trial run with your diuretics during your carb up to see if you look pretty close when dry. Don't know if my info was helpful..you didn't give us many details.

Thanks the info on seeing a vein on your lower abs was good.

Is it best to get a body fat reading just before you start dieting??? Just to give you a guide as for how long to diet?

diet for 8 to 16 weeks. If it's your first time 16 -18 weeks is the best thing . take pics, have someone who competed before take a look at you. If you have lets say a christmas tree on your lower back you are at a bout contest ready. striated glutes, = 4-5% bodyfat, if you are that talented.
look at
www.shawnray.net (there is a link, under nutrition, entitled last week)
www.flexonline.com keyword carbs under nutrion , you should get a carb loading article which is brilliant i've tried it about 3 times the week of the show and it works wonders. Carb loading will help. good luck

alright bro, there are many types of "contest diets out there and you simply have to pick the one that works for you. First of all, what are your stats right now. I mean if your like 6% already, you don't need to do a keto diet right away. Post your stats to give us a clue of where you stand right now. -Josh
