Gal Pal & Ripped Fuel

...sigh

I just found out my friend has been popping daily on average 4-6 ripped fuel caps a day since MARCH of last year. I knew she was trying to drop a few pounds and couldn't (actually she was simply eating too much and too many starchy carbs) with an added pressure of public insults by her husband.

Anywho.

Back to the original thought, she has been taking these everyday for nearly a year and I can't get through to her that this is not a good thing.

Any ideas of what I could tell her?

First of all, her husband should be supporting her, NOT putting her down...jerk! Sorry, I hate that:mad: There's such pressure for women to constantly look good to begin with, having someone you care about put you down just makes it harder. It's a set up for failure before you even begin...

Anyway, you could help her research some diet alternatives that may suit her better than her current one. Adding more complex carbs rather than starchy. There are so many on this board that people have had success on whether it was 10lbs. or 40lbs. Check out metabolicdiet.com it decreases carbs for 5 days, but allows "carb/cheat days" for two. Something like that might help.

I would also let her know that just like anything else, when you take something too often, your body becomes used to it and losses its effectiveness. Taking ripped fuel everyday may have helped in the beginning, since she's been doing it for a year its probably not working anymore.

Wishing her the best of luck:angel:

There's no scientific evidence that her body will get used to the Ripped Fuel from a metabolic standpoint. Studies have suggested that the sides such as the jitters, etc. pass with time, but the increase in metabolic rate does not.

If she is currently able to tolerate the Ripped Fuel, what she needs to do is start changing her diet so she can begin losing weight. At that point, then taper the dose back and/or wean off.

She should not take any greater dose than she is now however.

"Taking ripped fuel everyday may have helped in the beginning, since she's been doing it for a year its probably not working anymore. "

Oh it's still working, proof of that will come if she stops.

The bottle of ripped fuel clearly states The maximum recommended dosage of ephedrine for a healthy adult human is no more than 100 mg in a 25 hour period for not more than 12 weeks .

It also lists this warning....Exceeding recommended serving may cause serious adverse health effects including, heart attack and stroke. Discontinue use and call a physician immediately if you experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness, sever headache, shortness of breath, or other similar symptoms

From WebMD ....Extended use can lead to tolerance and dependence, so that ever larger doses are required to obtain an effect. Because of these dangers, you should only take Ephedra for short periods. This is the same for MaHuang

Just my 2 cents

What she said.

As far as the husband goes, he should realize he's just hurting her, not helping. Like someone told me, "an ounce of encouragement is worth a pound of criticism"

Good luck to your friend ms. V.:)

This is starting to sound like a reader's digest article.

Do a Medline Search, find the studies at a health sciences library and read them yourselves.

Average doses of PURE ephedrine HCl used in these studies ranged from 25-50 mg per dose and up to 150 mg per day total for up to 3 months without significant side-effects. In some cases 100-200 mg of caffeine was added per dose. One recent study was even done in adolescents.

Next, read the label on a Ripped Fuel bottle.

MaHuang Extract standardized for 20 mg ephedra alkaloids.

There is 20 mg of ephedra per 2 capsules. Look at the serving size. Thus, 4 - 6 caps per day is 40 - 60 mg/d total. Clearly within reasonable doses and no reason to panic.

WebMD is going to take the conservative position which is fine because EPH is a drug and can cause serious and/or life-threatening sides in some people, however, if she was that sensitive to it, she'd be dead by now. If she hasn't increased her doses, then it's unlikely she is developing a problem with dependence.

Having said that, it would be prudent to wean her off the EPH, but unless she controls her diet, she will gain fat. Stopping the EPH cold turkey is a bad idea and will likely result in withdrawl. It must be tapered and in conjunction with a proper diet.

I'd start with the diet, then taper the Ripped Fuel, THEN find a new husband.

She needs to start with changes in her diet..the ripped fuel will help but in order for her to see changes in her overall body her diet needs to be clean...As for her husband..having someone there to kind of kick you in the butt and point you in the right direction is good..but someone who makes comments to insult you in public is not someone I would claim as MY husband..what kind of love is that? I am sure he is ripped to shreds himself too! Taking pills does not solve the problem of trying to lose weight nor does it allow you to eat more junk foods and over do the starches either...
