Gaining muscle WITHOUT fat? =/

recently i guess because of my new dieting and my 5x5 routine my weight keeps changing...1 day i weigh 174 lbs...1 day i weigh 179...my diet hasn't been too strict recently because 2 days ago we had a big party at the house and there was a bunch of food so i kinda had to eat it so i did...the next day we had a bunch of leftovers...and my parents were like you'd better not make ANY steaks or fish or anything - finish the leftovers so it doesn't waste...so i had to...and the leftovers weren't really UNHEALTHY but they certainly weren't what i should be eating...anyways when i see my weight get up to like 178 or 179 ive been taking in fewer calories the next day to make sure it goes down a little bit..and it works

but i was wondering if i DO see my weight increase...how do i know if it's muscle gain or just fat? or is there no real way to do this without going to a university and dunking every week? i have made increases in strength in the gym recently though on the 5x5 so could the weight added be from lifting more? (i hope :worried: )

first off, it's probably water weight. It would be very hard to gain 3-4 lbs. of real weight in a day or two. Don't worry about it. You're bulking, so just eat, lowering your calories is only going to set you back. Just don't over indulge all the time, make it an occasional thing.

i see the same problem, although i wish i had leftovers like that to eat.

my weight will fluctuate 3-4 lbs by day ( i always weigh at the same time), i am assuming its water weight

i started to gage myself by the look of my abs instead of weight or bf

i started looking at my abs as an idea to see if it was fat or nothin to worry about and my abs did look less visible and more fat seemed to show on days i weighed in heavier...so even if it was water weight it would have made my stomach look flabby...so i don't think i can go off my abs :worried:

Bro, get used to the idea:

While bulking you WILL gain some fatr weight, how much, only your dedication (diet wise) and genetics will tell. A guy here kept the fat at about 20% of his gains... (every 10lbs gaines, 8 were muscle). These are amazon results in my book (he did that without roids too).

keep your diet clean and stop worrying about the little picture... you will get your abs back once you cut.

you will gain some fat if you want size. if you do notice too much fat coming on..either, do a little cardio, back off on your fat intake or reduce cals. altogether.

I wouldn't worry about gaining 5 or so pounds here and there and going back down a few days later..that's is most certainly water weight..shit, I can gain close to 15 pounds on the week-end when I'm eating alot of food..I drop the water a couple of days later...don't worry about it until the scale dosesn't go down
