fruits

Bill Pearl eats fruits when cutting, and in the evening also.. not before workout... and he gets shredded... 90% of the people on this board overexaggerate all these things, I loved zero%bodyfats post to show up how wrong alot of peoples opinions are, as to.. you need to have 'diet in check' for cardio to do anything.

So you take the word of one person to show hundreds of others are wrong? Convenient when you want to believe something is true. Similar to the popular concept on this board to ask a question and keep bumping 5 pages of responses until you see the one you want and then take it as gospel while ignoring the truth as it stares you in the face. There are definately many myths around that never seem to dissapear no matter how many times they are proven wrong, however there are a great number of myths that hold up to be truth.

The only thing zero has shown is that he can get away with what he does. Assuming everyone else can achieve the same results as him is presumptuous to say the least. Not only that but most people on this board would not do what he does even if it would work. Who wants to do 2 hours of cardio a day? I have a life to live and don't have time to spend that long doing mindless cardio just so I can shovel my face with shit. I'd prefer to live a healthier lifestyle in general and still be able to do the things I enjoy without always worrying about doing xxx amount of required cardio. That's all opinion however and neither choice is "wrong", just different.

He claims he has horrible genetics for fat gain and that he used to be "fat". Personally I'd love to see a picture of him during this time as see what he claims is "fat". There are many people in the world who are 10% bodyfat and think they look horrible when in reality they are leaner than 99.9% of the population. Then they believe they have horrible genetics, slow metabolism and can never get lean, etc....

Not calling zero a liar, he just loves to talk about how out of shape he used to be and how hard it is for him to stay in shape. I'd love to see pictures as to just how bad he really was. Then I'd have a bit more faith in his results from his insane diet strategies if he truly looked like a body for life before pic :)

actually, I just started cutting not long ago after 3 months of bulking and I've been doing something somewhat similar to him, except on days I feel lazy I just eat lower carbs, regular protein low fat, really calorie deficit, then if I feel good or really feel like pigging out I'll just bust my ass on cardio, I've been loosing steady doing this... now it's not just the word of 1 person there is plenty of people that eat high carb diets and get cut, usually ones that are high activity, it seems like a rather simple concept... More CARBS give you the ability to put out a higher intensity in your workouts because they are oxidized faster, with this higher itensity you are more able to burn them off, now if you eat low carb/calorie deficit you will not have as much energy to put the same intensity into your workouts, yet you won't be causing as many insulin spikes (or none the way most people suggest here), and not have alot of calories to store as fat anyway, and the energy expenditure required is not as great! .. now it's not like every person is so biologically different that something as simple as calories in VS calories out will fail to work person to person... a man can eat say a banana which lets say is 150 calories, now if he does 150 calories worth of sprinting chances are most of the calories burned will be from glycogen and some from fat, so fat loss will occur also.......

If you look at some of my posts over the years you'd see I am anything but a low carb fanatic. I'd try to steer people away from low carb diets and focus them on eating more carbs, but focusing on healthier whole foods and lower GI sources.

I don't doubt that high carb diets can drop fat as many have been doing it for years, me being one of them. The main thing I'm arguing about is that you were commenting on fruits which is a healthy carb, whereas zero is stuffing his face with junk food. If someone is so addicted to junk food that they resort to insane amounts of cardio to be able to enjoy them then so be it. Though I hardly see that method as something I'd recommend to the masses as it simply isn't healthy. Being healthy and being "in shape" are two different things as I've mentioned before. Just because you can stay lean while eating junk doesn't make it any healthier for your body in the long run. The massive insulin spike caused by ingesting huge amounts of simple sugars is not good for your body over time, even if you manage to burn it all off throughout the day. This type of eating is what causes diabetes in the long run.

If you do some more research you'll also find that more people are beginning to realize that a calorie is not just a calorie. Energy balance is important no doubt, but macronutrient ratios and timing have an huge impact on how our body utilizes this energy. He who eats 3000 calories worth of junk food versus he who eats 3000 calories worth of high protein, low GI carbs and healthy fats will have an entirely different profile and the healthy eater will have much better results in the gym. Nutrient ratios and timing have a far greater importance on body composition than was once thought. Search for articles by John Berardi called "Lean Eatin", read posts by swolecat, check out Animal's board and do some of your own research and you'll begin to realize these facts.

I'm not saying it's impossible to get or stay lean eating less than optimally. I am saying that there IS a difference and for the genetically impaired trainee, which is most of us, they may have to take advantage of these facts to get the results they're looking for. I can say with 100% certainty after attemping it myself that I can eat far more calories and stay lean by eating in the way I described than I can eating a half assed diet.

I'm aware that certain ratios of nutrients and times that they take them can influence health and overall efficiency, but none the less your body will still burn calories no matter what if you subject it to the right kind of intensity, either way any carbohydrate.. the best for of energy for high intensity (except fibre) will eventually become glucose...

The point being most people would rather make some simple changes to the way they eat to help stay lean over time than to go medeival on a treadmill for 2 hours a day. As I said though, to each his own.

I get lean as hell eating fruit. It holds alot of Water and makes you feel full making it easier to keep cals low. Just avoid dried fruit and eating too much at one time.

Sorry guys, but although I'm a Bill Pearl fan, I have to admit that either the guy is probably one of the top 3 or 4 genetically blessed body builders of all time or is totally bull shitting everyone with his diet and training methods. Things I've heard read that he has said about himself and/or his methods
1. I lift 2 hours a day six days a week
2. I never train to failure...training to failure is a step in the wrong direction
3 I never do cardio to get cut, it is a waste of time
4 I don't eat meat of any type... he has been a vegetarian for many years, including when he was at his prime
5 A 220 ibs bodybuilder don't need more than 100 grams of protien to make optimal gains
BTW, he claims to still adhere to all of these things, yet he is in his 70's and still has a better body than 95% of the people on this board. I'm not saying he is wrong...only that for those less genetically gifted, don't expect to make spectacular gains doing what Bill Pearl does.
