I plan on competing august 16th

My basic plan is this

day1 ME lower\events
day2 Overhead press
day3 DE lower
day4 DE upper

I was doing progressive overload before this plan, and before that I was training westside. Progressive overload 5x5 plan was great, I practiced free squatting and stuff...but this plan feels like the way to go. Last time I tried westside i was somewhat uneducated, now i feel enlightened lol. Most of you know me from my ronnie coleman video.

I am currently getting my money and ideas together for my implements. Will be getting my tire soon, a sled soon too. I am going to invest in good equipment and it will hopefully last forever.

I'm 16, currently weigh 165. I plan on gaining weight in the next few months maybe up to 175 or so, maybe 185.

I'll start posting videos every sunday just like bfold once I get my stuff together.

What do I think about the training so far? Well...Its very fun. Overhead pressing instead of benching is awesome. ME lower days are great because thats when heavy weights get used...definately my favorite day. More opions on the events as I get my toys.

ALL of my ideas and inspiration comes from the boards very own bfold.

I probably will sometime in the future. Not currently doing any strongmain training, but I will someday.

I jsut found out about the "Music City Strongman Showdown" on June 16th, here in Nashville, and thought about competing in the novice heavyweight division. However, I will be in NC working at that time. So, no strongman for me, at least not right now.

I am entering the Music City strongman Showdown, and will probably be entering as a novice heavyweight. I don't have any access to equipment as of yet, but I'm hoping I get creative and make some or go to a junkyard and find some substitutes. I have just switched my routine from WSB and it looks something like this:

Sunday
squats- sets and reps varies i.e. one week pyramid up to max, next week high-reps(20-30), next week bottom postion squats, usually 10 set of 3

Cleans-again varies

good morings-4 sets of 8-12

chins -4 sets of max

Monday

bench work
overhead press work
stretching

tuesday
cardio-30 min
band gpp
stretching

Wednesday
deads-vary grips(zercher, sumo, conventional) reps and range of motion

snatches

heavy bent rows

heavy bicep work

Thursday
chest and shoulder speed work
tricep work
stretching

Friday(optional)
same as Tuesday

I will going into this competition with no experience unless my equipment status changes, so I am going to make sure my core strength is strong and will try to maximize cardiovascular output by adding some supersets, jump sets, and giant sets in the last four weeks before events.

Thanks, for asking b!

As of late last week, I am planning on entering two contests. One in the Spring and a contest Tod is putting on in August. I'll be in the women's under 140lb class for both.

As for training, you're gonna have to ask Tod! He's got ALOT planned for me :xeye: - and the other guys we train with!

I can tell you though, that my weight training days are Sat/Sun/Monday/Wed, strongman training on Fridays.

Monday training may be eliminated, since I am now also preparing for possible amatuer boxing action - boxing training on Mon/Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday mornings. I feel the conditioning needed for boxing will certainly be helpful for strong "person" :D training. And I jump rope, 2-3 times a week for 20-30 minutes a session. I feel this also helps.

As for changes in training? Adding grip work and performing more powerlifting/olympic movements to our training. But, now, whatever Tod and Julie recommend me and my boyfriend do in our training - we'll be doing!

Benefits for strongman/woman training? Oh, added conditioning, mental toughness, and adding a hell of alot of fun into training now! That's what I see!

Cool b fold, didn't know there were even this many people interested. I promote the "Lumberjack Days Strongman Championships" in Stillwater, MN every summer. This years will be July 26th, info and entries are at www.stonelifter.net. I'm the guy flipping the tire and pulling the truck in the pics. The other two guys are friends I train with here in MN.

Im 19 and compete.I alternate or mix westside and olympic lifting.I think strongman would benifit others because it gives you a more everyday functional strength, and you hit certain muscle groups alot differently then what you would do in normal gym lifting. When I first had a real event training day last year,I could barely walk with an empty 300 yoke, then after alot of practice with it I did 650 for 80' in a good time.I dont know that my build has changed alot since then, but Id rather look like I do now and be able to walk with 650lbs on my back, than look like I do and only be able to struggle just supporting 300lbs on my back.
The events have also helped my mental strength. You lift such heavy weights when doing the events, that the weights that you use in the gym dont seem so intimidating anymore.Im planning on doing a contest in St Louis in a few weeks,a contest in may in Illinois, and hopefully the Music city contest.Good luck to all of you in your training!!!!

I might eventually, but for now just powerlifting. I am a general fan of strongman/woman though. Hey Clint, are you going to be at the St. Anne, IL meet on May 17th? It says it's silver level whatever the hell that means.

Glad to see all of these fellow strongmen on here...but I know that there are more...

I may do that contest in MN this year...it is a good possibility. I have heard many great things about it.

I am a pro and have competed at my countries nationals a few times. I don't want to elaborate too much because of a few obvious factors. I train strongman very much like a decathlete trains for track and field, but you probably already know that! I have been following you for some time and your time to shine is right around the corner.
