Ok...line up in a punt formation...when the ball is snapped to the punter naturally the gunners, the outside guys, are going to be blocked by the defense. The defense runs all the way down the sideline blocking them the whole way....
instead of punting the ball what if the punter just throws the ball up towards one of the gunners...the defensive guy will have no idea it wasnt punted and should be called for a pass interference....right?

Im not sure why this hasnt been tried??

so would this play work...technically its pass interference...right?

straight from the nfl rule book (no. . .i'm not kidding):

Note 5: Whenever a team presents an apparent punting formation, defensive pass interference is not to be called for action on the end man on the line of scrimmage, or an eligible receiver behind the line of scrimmage who is aligned or in motion more than one yard outside the end man on the line. Defensive holding, such as tackling a receiver, still can be called and result in a 5-yard penalty and automatic first down from the previous spot, if accepted. Offensive pass interference rules still apply.
