Hello ladies,

I am a regular on the supplements board but i have a question for yall...

my gf is a huge runner (5 miles/appx hr-ish every day) and she recently sprained her ankle.

She is frustrated that she cant workout and i am wondering what kind of cardio exercises she can do in the mean time while it heals.

I have suggested the bike but i really cant think of any others that might be light on her foot.

Also, lifting is out of the question. it's just not her style.

Thanks for your experiences, suggestions, and general help!

they have those hand cycling machines that work the upper body, where you hold the pedals with you hands and adjust the intensity from light to heavy.

i didn't think lifting was my style either until i did it....
and "style" doesn't really have much to do with it. does she want to have a strong body that will aid in her running workouts, then lifting is most beneficial. this could be the opportunity to explore lifting. do upper body workouts and see how she likes it.

Can she do rowing?.... VERY VERY good exercise, especially if she wears to brace to avoid pressure.

She really should be smart and rest. There is no reason to risk worse injury. Yah, it's a pain to have to sit out for a minute, but it's just a sprain - she won't be out long.

Your idea of a cycling is great. Beyond that pending on the severity of the sprain and how long she will be out I also agree that she should consider weight training - it will help her with her running and can be geared more toward circuit training that she may enjoy more since she is a runner. If it is a minor sprain that is only going to take a week or two to recover from then she should just rest, otherwise have her consider some of the other things listed above.
