Hey guys,

I'm trying to switch from bikini to figure and that means gaining some muscle in the off-season, which I've been doing. This has required me to eat more and I'm wondering whether I overshot because I have definitely gained some fat. Is it possible to gain muscle without fat or do I just need to accept that I'm gonna get temporarily a little softer if I want my muscle mass to grow?

Thoughts? Experiences? I am starting to feel kinda gross!

You can burn fat and build muscle at the same time but its very hard, you have to manipulate your carbs, one day high carb one low basically one day low calorie low carb, one day high carb high calories, on the high carb day you go very low fat below 40..
Go read burn the fat feed the muscle by tom ventu or something like that i forgot what it was, its a very good ebook or you can just download it.. It shows you how to burn fat and build muscle at the same time.. The main point of this is manupilating carbs, thats all but it has alot more if you want to get more knowledgeable..

Have you achieved good results with carb cycling? I have done a good bit of reading on it (I will check out your reference though -- that's not one I've read) but in practice still find it really tough to lose without losing muscle I worked hard to gain.

Has anyone had this work? How about not on gear?

I have only tried it for a short time and it worked really well, the ebook that i mentioned, recommends (if i remember correctly) 2-3 days low carb then 2-3 days high carb.. Go read it if you really want to get results so bad, Its defenitly tough to keep up with this, but the results are worth it..

This is good info. I have read that ebook and it works quite well. You have to be very disciplined to follow it but the results are great.

cool, thanks! i'm ordering it! i definitely have the discipline... i just hate following something to a T for weeks on end without results!

Remember, most people looking to bulk will be looking to cut 4-5 months later.

You can gain just as much muscle, without anywhere near the fat in an 8mo careful lean bulk as you can in 5 months of bulking and 3 months of cutting. Figure out your TDEE, eat around 250kcal over this in high protein foods on lifting days and the days directly after lifting. Eat at TDEE on a 2nd consecutive rest day (eg. Workout +250, Recovery + 250, Off + 0, Workout + 250, etc.), and certainly cycle carbs. As a male, I've been able to put on an appreciable amount of lean mass over a year doing this, while keeping my lifts up and only putting on 2-3% BF or so.

Keeps me out of the "eat a fucking lot then starve myself" mindsets, and I tend to be generally healthier all around.

CKD is the king of fat loss and lean mass retentive diets, however. Made fantastic strides on CKD.

If it's not too late, he recently came out with a new book with some updated philosophies in them.
