I just switch to an mkd this week, and on a whim decided to test my changes in blood sugar using so-called low carb, or sugar free snacks, so I bought some new test strips for my glucometer and recalibrated it this morning. As a general rule I always test positive for ketones using keto sticks at a blood sugar level of 70 mg/dl or less, no exception, though I have had ketones in my urine with it as high as 81. So I don't bother with keto-sticks anymore.
5:30 am used 4 units of humalin-R. Drank 50 g whey isolate, 10 g glutamine, 5 g creatine.
5:45 drank 8 egg whites (large eggs so about 32 grams of protien at the most 2 grams of carbs, no fat) went to gym
6:50 finished workout, had a headache, drank 25 g isopure, 20 g glutamine, 10 g creatine.
7:05 got home, started feeling hypo, had 25 g isopure, 5 g glutamine. Within 30 minutes felt much better.
8:00 ate 1/2 cup of walnuts, 3 g fish oil + vitamines.
-Test no. 1 caffiene free diet dr. pepper
9:00 drank 2 whole large eggs, 1 tbs flax, 8 oz diet dr. pepper
9:30 first test:49 mg/dl
10:30 drank 2 tbs of olive oil, with 2 oz of ground beef.
-Test no. 2 carb solutions candy bar, cholate with almonds. Each bar contains 11 g fat, 2 g of impact carbs, 3 g of protien. Also 12 g of maltitol, a sugar alcohol which does not impact blood sugar levels or have an insulin response, rated as having no glycemic index. Dr. Adkins also indorsed this sugar alcohol and said it did not put his patients out of ketosis.
11:50 ate 4 of the bars. Yummy! That is a total of 8 g of impact carbs and a whoping 48 g of maltitol. Thus, we should see some rise in blood sugar due to the 8 g of carbs. Now if the sugar alcohol has even a very low gi, we should see a large increase in blood sugar due to the 48 grams, and I will sue carb solutions.
12:25 blood sugar test results: 57 mg/dl. Still pretty damn low.
This experiment will be continued throughout the day for those who are interested in this subject...
