Hi all. Anyone can feel free to comment, but being an endomorph myself, I was curious to see what similiar body types do to keep in shape. Here are some of the things that are working for me...

1) Accepting the fact that I may feel I "look bigger" as I continue to train, but realizing that my body fat is slowly decreasing. (If anyone else has gone through this, please share how long it took you to go from looking "fit" to looking "tight.")

2) Keeping carbs to a very strict minimum. Despite what "experts" say, I am definately gaining rediculous muscle on under 20 carbs a day (most are post weight training).

3) Undereating. That's right. Why am I going to stuff myself and risk gaining fat when my body tells me it's full? I'm 5'0" and 800 - 1,100 calories a day is plenty. As I become more fit, I will attempt to raise this amount, but I will always lower it again in attempts to shock my body.

4) Accepting a personal trainer's help. The one at my gym is teaching me things I've never even considered doing. He is kicking my ass with high reps, low weight, and by grouping muscles together.

Those are just some of the many. All I know is that something's working. I can't remember the last time in my life (I'm 26) I've had such consistant energy! If I feel good, I know I'm doing something right. Please share your fitness stories if you sound anything like me

How much do you weight even at 100 lbs 800-1100 calories is way to low your going to mess up your metabolism like that.

I grow on really low carbs as long as I eat enough quality fat.
My body does not respond to carbs like most.

Seriously. I ran her through a few BMR calculators giving her an age of 35 (probably off by more than ten years) and her BMR is 1200, that's laying in bed, not doing anything all day.

I usually eat 1000 calories by lunch ...

Bump ...

BTW, you are most welcome in the women's forum, I mean that :)

But carb counts aside, I think you probably aren't consuming enough calories and the reason you need to cut your carbs so dramatically to see progrss is because your body is in starvation mode. 800 calories is a little more than what one of my cats eats daily, and I don't have fat cats.

Thank you for your response. It's nice to hear from somone else who is responding well to a low-carb (quality!) diet.

I have done well on low carb diets as well but really think you will pay the price in the long run if you don't up your calorie intake a bit.

As low as you're running your calories, I'm not sure you will experience this. However, coming off a long, totally sedentary phase, you might gain muscle while simultaneously losing some bodyfat for the first 6-8 weeks. Thereafter you'll just do one or the other based on (primarily) your diet. Maybe an additional 8 weeks after that entry phase you might have shed enough fat for that new muscle to reveal itself and create a more shapely appearance.

"Tightness" may also come from cleaning up your diet enough to discourage excessive water retention and could also occur during that first phase.
