Man, ive walked up to chicks, and said "um..............(1 or 2 second pause) hi" along with a smile. Make it look like you did that on purpose, they will think its cute. Then go on with a studdering nervous routine and ask them out, but make it look like your doing it on purpose by adding in a cocky smile, works quite a bit for me.
