Hi everybody,
my name is not interesting, but my place of living is: I live in Vienna, in the same country Arnold was born. I guess we all know that by now.
Now, Austria is pretty much at the boarder to Eastern Europe. So our qualities are Western, but when it comes to bodybuilding we tend to be rather Eastern, or less advanced.
I read about "Surge" and "NitriX" and whatever you have in the States. I am familiar with some of them, as I have a dual citizenship (Austria and Canada) and travel overseas sometimes. In our stores here we can buy whey, glutamine, aminos, some BCAAs... and that's about it. No Surge, NitriX and so forth.
Protein costs a lot in the Eastern countries, around triple the price compared to the USA. And the variety is very limited. Now, from my own experience, let me tell you this: The bodybuilders there, unless on a diet, do not TOUCH ANY of those things. While some Americans seem to use those products as their regular diet routine. Some bodybuilders there don't even diet with supplements, except a good extra multivitamin.
Heck, I have seen a very good IFBB amateur here in Austria, who was in the European top five when our bodybuilder Thomas Burianek was still active (and second or so). This guy's diet consisted of "cardio", that is it. No protein shake, glutamin, etc. Yes, he took aminos. But the cheapest of its kind. He ate burgers even a few days before the contest, was 102kg with extreme definition at 178cm body height. Looked monstrous. Worked out six times a week with heavy weights and just... lifted and ate. That is what they do in Eastern Europe. Many people cannot afford a decently working car there, so how can anyone afford a powder that costs a fortune? That would be paradox.
We can settle this down to roids - yes, roids are in the game there. But usually pharmacy stuff, like Deca, Sustanon, Winstrol, Oxymetholone and, now on the rising, Trenbolone. Steroids cost very little here (500 pieces of dianabol with 10mg each cost around 50€, a 10ml vial of trenbolone with 100mg/ml cost 35€, the other things around the same; although Tren is more expensive in the making, but that is a different topic).
Heck, the burger-guy I was talking about was taking Deca and Sustanon, and some Winstrol in the end, for his contest! And looked so brilliant, that any supplement-freak would have stood in awe. I stood in awe and have seen quite a few athletes around (preparing myself for a contest right now). Some specialties like Halotestin and so on are only used by a very few.
To be honest, the Easterners here call Americans and their Bodybuilding-Style crazy. And somehow they are right. With thousands of products they are taking and yet, Eastern Europe, lacking those specialties, produces some of the finest bodybuilders around without any "VasoFX" and what those things are all called... astounding.
My impressions. Take care guys.
With best regards from Vienna
