Not-So-Lean Gene
If you prefer sloth and torpor to a grueling 10-mile run, you just might have the couch-potato gene. An Australian scientist says his discovery of the gene confirms that some people simply aren't wired for exercise, and may not benefit from it as much as others do.
"Our research has looked at the genetic basis of the fact that some people are more 'trainable' than others," said professor Claude Bouchard, who presented his findings to the Australian Health and Medical Research Congress this week.
"Some people are not interested in being physically active and some people reap considerably greater benefits from an active lifestyle," he said.
