Does caloric requirement go up dramatically if you lift hard?

I talk to bodybyfinaplix on IM alot, and he eats tons of calories, about 1500 more than a person his size should eat, but he does extremely high intensity lifting 2x a day. Forced negatives, supersets & dropsets.

I myself find that when i work out too hard that i develop an insatiable appetite and end up eating 1000-2000 kcal above 'maintenance' for a day or two afterwards. Normal maintenance (w/o cardio) may be 3600 a day but if i work out hard i find that i end up eating 4800 or so without even thinking about it.

has anyone else had this? Is it somehow tied into the body needing to be in a caloric positive state so it can rebuild the damage or what?

depending on your training intensity and duration you will expand 300-500 cals while lifting

When I work out harder, I do want to eat more.
 
Ulcaster, nordy and I chat almost every day on yahoo. Anywho, yeah I rarely go under 6000 cals a day. I lose weight on 4000 if Only eat carbs once every few days, and doing no cardio. I only went down to 3500 a day for my last show with a refeed of about 8000 once a week.
 
Kcal requirements are very individual based on metabolism. I'm 240 lbs and eat 350-400g prot, 200g cho, ~60g fat per day and lose BF very quickly. I can go as high as 5,000 Kcal per day on a bulking diet and not gain much fat. That's why I always preach a food log for newbies so you can get to know how your body responds nutritionally.
 
nordstore. how much do you weight? i guess going BW x 15 (BW x 20 MAX) are good starting points without going too far into calculations.. that's about what Mr.x also suggests.
 
With a higher caloric expenditure, your maintenance calories would have to change.

BBF, are you still doing CKD? If so when are your carb-up days?

Thats exactly what i get, i almost feel compelled to take in 5000 calories or more on days when i work out hard.

I weigh 258, but i think my maintenance w/o cardio or drugs is around 3600 a day.
 
increase protien breakdown,= increase in need for protein for sythesis, and glycogen repelnishment


my biggest meal of the day is always after a gruleing workout......

but its a clean meal

Right now I carb load once every four days. If I really feel depleted I'll do a day and a half or even two days of loading on occasion.
 
yep i go by that overtrained feeling also

im fortunate that i love food, eating a lot isnt a drama for me. ill be hones though, when i train hard and heavy all i really do is eat a big clean meal after the workout and then increase the protein portion on all meals until i snooze...sometimes if im particularly greedy i throw in a protein only meal right before bed.

i must say taht im somewhere between an endo and mesomorph though
 
Speaking of which, just got back from teh grocery store. HEB has top siloin on sale for $2.99 a lbs if you buy value packs (3+ lbs each). I'll be eating good this week.
