It's tough to say. I definitely do not live paycheck to paycheck, by definition, but pretty damn close to it. I gotta get out of this terrible area - to expensive for my low-paying job.
 
I try to save a paycheck's worth every month (get paid weekly). I do have bad spending habits though :rolleyes:
 
It's dangerous to live paycheck to paycheck. One fuckup, family loss, medical cost, car blowing up, firing, disability, id theft, whatever -- you're fucked. House/rental, car, gf, everything could all be gone.

No American should have less than $10k stocked away as a safety net. $20k if you have a family.
 
Use to-it sucked, but if you don't have any choice it's better then nothing. I haven't lived like that for a few years now and it's pretty nice:) We (husband and I) spend money like fuggin' water but we both have 401 K's and a nice savings account. Bottom line, we can do pretty much whatever we want without sweating it much...within reason:)

i know exactly what you mean. i tried selling insurance and had good months and bad months. i couldnt take it so i left. but now i dont live paycheck to paycheck anymore. the navy retirement helps out tremendously. pays my rent and then some.
 
:) no, but I have amassed a ton of expenses to go against the checks.
 
pretty much the only way to fly in L.A. where it takes $65K/year to live alone in a non crackhouse neighborhood.

Sort of, but not because we are forced to. David does put some money back into retirement, and has kept his bills so low that he has well over half his income left over at the end of the month.

But he has been sinking all his extra money into home improvements. We are putting wood floors throughout (because carpet is fucking disgusting and thinking about all the bacteria in it makes my skin crawl), redoing all the siding, repainting throughout, replacing linoleum with tile throughout, moving the closet in the bedroom, putting in new contertops in the kitchen, and upgrading almost everything in the bathroom.

So, basically - we live very frugally for the time being. LOL.
 
No, sometimes I have a paycheck sitting in my wallet for a month or more before I get around to cashing or depositing it. I'm a capricorn so I have to have money, if my account dips below 20k I freak the fuck out.
 
no, never have. I learned how to control my finances very well from my mother who can stretch a penny into a dollar.

About 35% of my paycheck goes to retirement, 401, and savings. I got lucky with my job is all I can say. Plus I have a ton of wal-mart stock that i've had for awhile now.

I'm not very worried about retirement, i'm just trying to build up my emergency funds right now. Not very high at all. As of three months ago, i've been buying 1 $100 cd a month. That way I have money invested but accessible

Other than 401k I spend just about all of it. it's even tougher now that I have to foot all the bills. Before I just did alot of spending. now I actually have bills that take care of most of it. Thank god for bonuses!
 
Yes, but I'm in college and can work a minimal amount (~20 hrs/week). I'll be out of college with no loans, I can worry about saving then....
 
No rent, no paying for food. I spend my parttime income on Gym, protein and clothes. Its good to live worry free, but I want to start saving. I make about 900CAD a month (or 12 dollars American) and I want to spend no more than 300 on health and splurging, and atleast 500 dollars a month saved up for atleast 2 years.

but i tend to like to spend all my extra cash on myself .

my company does all the RRSp stuff and retirement stuff through my paycheck before i get it
 
Paycheck to paycheck sucks, but investing now and going without some things definitely pay off in the long run. No matter how much you make , you have to put something away.
 
Right now, it's paycheck to paycheck plus umemployment check to unemployment check. Had to borrow $1200 from my friend to get caught up on our overdue car payments before they took the car. Mortgage payment coming up in a few weeks with no idea how we're gonna come up with the money. My mustang is acting up with no money to fix it. Not sure if the mustang will take the constant 60 miles/day roundtrip I'll have to make for school in a few weeks. Haven't paid our credit card bills in months. Cable gets turned off all the time. Water also. Trying to get a management job at a place in the mall but I may have fucked that up.

I can't see trying to work full time plus go to school 3 days a week. My wife thinks otherwise thus I am forced to work full time knowing that the last time I tried to work and go to school full time, I burned myself out and ended up dropping out of school.

So, I will be forced to work 40+hours a week, go to school for another 20 hours a week and most likely not have a full day off just to still live paycheck to paycheck because the job will not pay enough to get us back on track. Life is really fucking shitty right now

I feel your pain. You won't have to buy much for the baby in the first year or so. Everyone just falls over themselves to give something to the baby. Formula, diapers, clothes and toys that they can't use for 2 years.

Ok, this sounds harsh.... but suck it up and deal. Plenty of other VERY SUCCESSFUL people have worked full time, raised a family (often by themselves) , and managed to finish school. "It's too hard" isn't an acceptable excuse when you have a family to look after.

It'll be rough - but it's only short term. The harder you push ahead, the quicker it's over with and you can start enjoying the rewards. YOU CAN DO IT. The light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train, I promise!
 
i have a bad habit of over paying my bills.. but i would arather do that than not pay them

I'm in college full time, working full time, and barely making it financially... It sucks hard, but is doable... and I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end.
 
Does anyone here have a plan or can you explain what you are doing to better your circumstances.

There seems to be a lot of ways to minimize debt. Not saying there is an answer for every issue...but there are many options available.


I would suggest using the debt / consumer credit people as a last resort...since this will negatively impact your borrowing, later on.
 
i over pay my bills.. works for me..:p

i can't balance a check book but at least i do it in the opposite way most ppl do

have you ever considered using any of the finanical software ?

seems more beneficial to take the extra and throw in a mutual funds. when you consider the theory of compound interest....you can be missing out on a small fortune.


just something to think about.
 
Basically.. if I was a little more thrifty I could save a little.. but with 4 kids in the house in San Diego.. our money just doesnt go far enough for much more.

What I do is go overseas for about 12 months, work my butt off and loose a bunch of weight. I come home with a pocket full of cash and no bills. It is a great system except that I spend the next 6 months getting back in shape and buying new crap. At that point it is time to deploy again. They teach us how to do this when you start the job.

I fit the textbook capricorn, everything is career and money blah blah blah. My ex was big into that astrology crap, so I had to hear about it all the time.

Sometimes, Depends on the unexpected that happens. Lately its been a tough one with the added expenses.

I make decent money but being a single mom and a one income household it gets hard at times.
 
I save.

its all still scholarship and daddy money though
but i get a fixed amount- the same my sister gets. she spends it all, i keep some on the side.
