Disinterest in phone convos?

In the last 2 years, I notice that I really have developed an increasing disinterest in phone conversation... I'm unsure why. I like talking to people IRL, and having a good convo. Although I really hate small talk, I do it, but just can't stand it, I don't get road rage, but small talk just annoys the shit out of me. I keep appts. with my friends through the phone, but thats about it. I've decreased significantly my contact with close friends from undergrad, highschool, and a couple of others through the phone and switched it over to email. Its not my phone voice, which is fine. Even the SO, when she goes out of town, I have to force myself to call her... conversation just seems more stale, and less spontaneous over the phone than IRL... is this just me? Anyway, does anyone else feel this way? Does anyone else not look forward to phone convo?

i HATE talking on the phone. Im HORRIBLE about calling people back or answering when they call (i look at the phone and say "nope dont wanna talk right now" and always let it go to vm). the only person i call is my Mom about 1-2 times a week. or my son everyday when he's visiting his dad for the summer. that's it. if my dad calls me i will always answer though.

I am the Director of Customer Service and I actually run an inbound call center. And I hate talking on the phone outside of work. Im ok on the phone for business purposes, but not outside of work. i hate idle chitchat. just say what you have to say and then lets hang up as soon as possible.

This is painful and embarassing, I just hit my head with a cabinet door, no not to test my toughness, but due to me being a dumbass, gotta go to the hospital, cause its bleeding too bad, and looks like I need stitches... god I'm such dumbass...

Great post, I agree, something about time, culture, and conversation or something inexpressible for me at the moment cause I"m tired, but yeah you hit it on the head, so much access now and communication technology... but we are left with nothing to say...

Got stitches in the left brow, and the waiting time in lobby wasn't too bad, I'm just happy that I didn't injure myself worse, and that I'm not stupid enough to listen to the voice that says wait till tomorrow and smoke and sleep and you will be fine... doc said had I waited definite scar, so no facial damage for this tiny smirking asian... I still had a day which revolved around the abundance of nothing, and I embraced this sweet nothing... and loved it... I'm just glad I'm not the only one who hates phone talk...
and I'm grateful that the smurf cared enough to check up on me.

oh last thing... I really love your honest take on mistakes... I'm not sure I've met someone so sanguine about their perceived mistakes, I don't totally agree with your take on your situation, but I don't disagree either...
I've made some major ones too, and I have learned a little bit.

I'm loathed to communicate with people via phone as well as I prefer face to face to better assess / react to what people are saying or to what I say. I feel I convey a better degree of sincerity etc when pulling stupid faces or gesticulating wildly.

Also, if you're talking to the right person, phone calls can be fun. I think tone of voice and timing, demeaner, etc.. does wonders to a conversation. Fuck this new technology internet bullshit.
