Hey Spatts,

I was wondering if you could suggest a diet for hyper, animated strongman type? Something that would let me shed a few pounds and still gain strength (yeah, I know you probably get this question all the time). Thank you in advance.

Carb cycling my man

more carbs on lifting days, less on days you are less active.

Yep, I carb cycle. I went from 192-176 after my Feb comp without losing any strength whatsoever.

Basically, just keep the protein and fat the same all the time, and eat high carb on training days and low carb on non training days. On training days, that's starchy and fibrous BEFORE the workous and fibrous only after the workout (exlucind post workout shake/meal). This way, you fuel your workouts, but only your workouts...no extra. :)

Spatts,

What exactly is a fibrous carb? Do potatoes have starch. As you can see, my knowledge of diet is limited. Is there a book or an old thread or something? Something that gives the types of food one shoud eat.

Cheese rocking out,

you have find a lot of informations on this board...just use the search!anyways potatoes are starchy carbs......fibous veggies are like lettuce,broccoli,cauliflower,cucumber....

This board is full of misinfomation, so I'm not sure a search would do him much good. Plus, the search dosn't work for non-plats anymore.

Cheese, a fibrous carb is justs one that has a lot of fiber. A potato has about 25g CHO after fiber is considered; whereas, 2/3 cup green beans has 7g CHO and 3g Fiber yieldinging a net CHO of 4g. If you stick to green veggies for your fibrous carbs you'll be ok.

Also, a potato is not evil. There IS a time for it. Sometimes people spend SO much time dwelling on what they shouldn't eat in the food, that they forget to consider what they CAN GET FROM THE FOOD. A potato is pretty much a vitamin capsule. Have one with breakfast or lunch on a training day if you really like them.

Spatts, what about immediately post-workout? Don´t you have some high GI carbs along with whey??

I´ve read that this is the most critical and safe time to eat sugary stuff... Do you skip the sugar post workout then??

thanx

Thanks for the information everyone. If anyone else has anything to add, please do so. Spatts, you are a pal.
