deadlifts and cutting...

the nature boy

New member
Is that recommended? I mean, if deadlifts are a "bulking" excercise, wouldn't doing them while cutting be a waste of time? Or should I lighten the weight and increase the reps?

I like doing them and I don't want to have to start all over again when I go into my next bulking cycle.

Hey Nature boy
Deadlift away bro...when cutting your main focus is getting your heart rate up and keeping it up ...any excersises whether it be heavy deadlifts or light with many reps makes no difference...i would keep them the way thats comfortable with you bhro..

I always lift as if I'm bulking. Bulking and cutting for me only affects diet and amount of cardio I do. So yeah, deadlift all you want.

Hey Crusher, welcome to the board!!

i dropped deads from my routine when i was 7 weeks into cutting cause i began to encorporate cardio after 9 weeks.

squatting on monday, doing cardio throughout the week and then deadlifting on fridays = too much for my lower back.

I would definatley keep the deadlifts. If lift to build mass while you are cutting you will keep more muscle. Just make sure that you are getting plenty of protein.

gymtime has it. If you want to cut, then cut the calories. Cutting should not change any of your training. Low weight/high reps doesn't burn fat better than heavy weight.

I find that I have a really hard time keeping mass when I diet, a problem that gets infinitely worse when I remove the heavy compound exercises like deads. A few things to remember though, on a low carb diet your strength will likely suffer so don't get depressed when you can't hit your usual weights. Also, the fats in your diet help add cushion to your joints, as a result on a low fat diet they are more prone to injury so warming up thoroughly has never been more important.

I agree. The only thing that changes when cutting should be diet and cardio. Continue to train heavy to hold onto the muscle and stay full. The only time I would cut out exercises like squats and dead is when I am about 2 weeks out form a show and that just to slim down the chances of injury due to the low body fat but other than that I keep heav basics through out.
