I've had a shitty last 24 hours, yesterday afternoon they call me from our imaging center to tell us my husband's pituitary MRI for today will we $755 and I'm'm thinking WTF our copay is $200 she insisted on us having to pay that for the test, I call my insurance and explain the test getting done and they assure me it's $200 and give me. Confirmation code, I call the imaging place and they say "oh ok then just $200"
Today I see my first breakdown for my sleep study last week, reads $6400, 2k discount, 2k ins coverage and 2400 patient responsibility because they are out of network, I start to freak out over this new damn debt, I call the health insurance to throw a fit because I CALLED and made sure they were in network before going and they said yes, well now they said no and too bad, say the sleep clinic charged with an out of network tax ID, I call the clinic and they tell me they have this shady procedure in which they over bill insurance and the amount they cover is the only payment charged, told me they will not charge me, I asked they email me stating I have no balance with them.... What a fucking mess...

why do they make shit so complicated and why can't people do their damn job right...:mad:

Sounds like a typical insurance company and medical billing department. It's always like this. They wouldn't make as much money if it wasn't so dang confusing lol. Most people would just go ahead and pay it so they won't have to worry about it.

that's what my husband said, that people probably don't even look into it and just pay.... I on the other hand flipped out and started making calls to straighten shit up.... But that's probably cuz I'm poor and have no iphone :( but on the other hand I just avoided almost 5k in debt

Well you did the smart and right thing and it saved you money. I've learned to will and deal with them. I can usually get then to knock off 20% when I go to pay it off.

wait til you can't get the test done at all unless u pay for it... just because you don't qualify for the test..

They have to do balls-out charging and let all the insurance crap sort itself out.

If they didn't (I.e. just cut you a package deal), they'd get crushed on their next Medicare audit.

You need to learn how to throw bills from the insurance company right into the paper shredder before even opening them. I still owe Palomar Hospital $1K from when my youngest was born (and he turned 4 in Feb).

But doesn't that hurt your credit in any way? granted I already have a house and car but want to have my credit intact, besides you do sign ppw acknowledging responsibility of payment when you are at the hospital

Welcome to the US.......Move to Canada!
average wait time in Canada takes from 4 months to 24+ months just for the full study to be completed, I know you have universal healthcare like CR but when it comes down to being evaluated for specialties or being looked at by a particular specialist it takes a long ass time, personally I like to not die before getting seen...

I've never seen it pop up on my credit report and even if it does - who cares about small things like that on your credit? I own 3 homes & 3 cars. A couple small bills that I ignore isn't gonna do anything to blemish my report.

I'm not talking about in your case. I agree.

But my insurance company shouldn't pay for a functional MRI b/c I think all the colors are pretty.
true, so far all the stuff we've had done has been necessary for diagnostics and we've actually questioned when they send over the top shit which caused them to go a different route, I guess people are just used to not questioning anything, I have an immense respect for Dr but if they start sending me things that seem off I will speak my mind, there's nothing wrong with that, specially with procedures/medication that isnt covered by your plan or can be costly like CT, MRI, etc hubby got an MRI today but that one I did see necessary due to the low T, just hope there's nothing F up in his pituitary :worried:

well I do have apnea so I did need it...

or...you could stop eating 17,000 calorie quesadilla explosion salads and exercise and lose about 57 lbs and you'd be able to breath at night.

Your husband is really going to want to fuck you when you're layin' in bed lookin like darth fuckin' vadar w/a cpap machine on.

oh look at me, I'm a baller. I don't care about credit reports.

I dont pay medical bills and no one gives a shit. Its not like a repo or foreclosure or credit card

I dont get it, one signs paperwork committing to pay, that is legally binding, cant they come after your assets?

Yeah, right. They may refer your case to some halfwit mongoloid who works for a collection agency. If they call you once, tell them where to stick it. Collection agencies can't harass you. It's also supposed to be pretty easy to make settlements on past due medical bills if you really feel guilty and want to pay something.

I owe about $1200 for the anesthesia peeps and $600 to care credit for the neuro's fees paid all others with the new job

Naturopathy often serves as an effective, moar financially viable option.

Just sayin'

Yes but you gotta make them show you their correspondence school certificate they printed off the internet first.

It will negatively impact your credit score though. Thus, paying higher interest rates and getting other less than favorable terms.

If you can't afford to pay it off, you can at least keep it from showing up on your credit report if you pay something every month towards your balance.

And u can confirm and restart the clock on the debt. If it hit your CR damage is already done.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it affects one way or another, when shopping for a car some sneaky ass dealers told me that since my car pmt were not reported to credit bureaus and I was upside down on it then I should just drop it off at the original dealer and tell them to fuck off, but it just didnt feel right, I feel like it hs more repercussion than I think so I didnt do it...

miplank do you have a hired repo guy working for you?

pay $10 a month toward it, they should leave you alone

just for the record I'm not drowning in medical bills or anything, they are all up to date and some already paid off, this thread was about getting suckered into $5000 in debt over medical providers not getting their shit together.

What surprised me was 755 bucks for an MRI pituitary. I'd have done that for half in the UK........

They called us today to report all is fine, back to square one though :worried:

ask the doctor if you'd be a good candidate for the oral appliance. You'd be fitted for a mouthpiece that would bring your lower jaw forward a bit to allow you to breath unobstructed. It's a lot more convenient than the CPAP. Usually people with mild to moderate OSA are good candidates.

Insurance should cover it as long as you get referred for it, otherwise they run around $1,200.

Well study results said my OSA is Severe, my "longest" breath was 30 seconds, with an average respirarory interruption of 46 times per hour, so I cant breath right for even 2 minutes :worried:
