I just got my first seizure letter (hooray!) and inclosed was also a "Notice of Abandonment". Is anyone familiar with this? I did a search and found nothing about it.
The leter of seizure says that I "...may elect to abandon the seized merchandise, and it will be forfeited to the government and the case will be CLOSED."
The "Notice of Abandonment" says "I hereby abandon all claim to and further waive my right to be notified in reference to the forfeiture of the above-described articles, and waive any further rights or proceeding relative to these articles".
At first I was going to send it in to get it over with but then I thought that the Notice of Abandonment reeks of admission of guilt, not to mention the clause about waiving rights relative to these articles.
