Curiosity; question on Liposucktion

First off before anybody flames me, no I'm not considering it. I'm 6'1, 200 pounds and 9% body fat. Not enough fat on me to suck off.

I was reading an article the other idea and the author mentioned that liposuction was an absolutely horrible idea. And I just happen to be obsessed with figuring out the "why?" to every thing that I come across. And this had me stumped, what are the drawbacks from liposuction?

In my opinion, liposuction is a good option for certain people. People that have done everything possible to get rid of a localized area of fat (perhaps lovehandles on a man) with no success.

A little story: I have a friend who had lipo of his abdomen and lovehandles, and I thought it was ridiculous that he was having it done. At the time the guy was 5'10'', 240lbs, probably about 25% fat. He also had never stuck with a diet or exercised very regularly. So he went through with it, they removed quite a lot of fat - I would say about 50% or so around his torso. Apparently this is all he needed to jump start himself into a fitness regimen. It has been 1.5 years since the surgery, he is now 210 lbs 10% body fat.

This doesn't answer your question about the drawbacks of lipo, but I think it's a little outrageous for anyone to take a position that liposuction is a "horrible idea".
