Great. If feels like I have the worlds worst crick (sp) in my neck. And today wasnt that bad. I did chest and tri's. My problem is, when doing chest or pressed, I kinda tense my neck up when I'm pushing really hard, kinda compress my neck and bare down. Ive always done it but today maybe went a little far. It feels horrible. I just rubbed Icy hot all over but that doesnt seem to be doing much as I believe it may be something other than what that can cure. I've done this once before, much worse than this, I got in a strange position doing incline and I couldnt move my neck for around 3 or 4 days. I have no idea what I did but it was terrible. Right now it only hurts or pulls when I tilt my head back, and I feel it in the back of my neck. Ice? Heating pad? Any advice? What could I have messed up?

I'm going heat and Ice right now. Any idea on what I might have messed up? just a strain? Any suggestions on other remedies? I have deads tomorrow.........:bawling:

heat. I find over the counter muscle relaxants like robaxecet really help me heal faster

So strange that you posted that. The Springfield crew was up here training max effort bench with us last week, and the 2nd set on bench, I just did something...don't know what...to my neck. It feels like when you sleep on it wrong, and wake up stiff, only it's radiating down my traps (to between my shoulder blades). It's been well over a week, and I still feel like I need an adustment.

I wish I could tell you where you messed up, but I don't even know how *I* did it. I think it was just a fluke.

I did that once benching, I think it was because when I was making a lot of effort to push the weight up, I just tensed the muscles in the left side of my neck. It's pretty easy to do accidentally. I try to make an effort to avoid that now.

Not sure if that's what you did, but I got the same kind of pain you're describing.

YES!!!! I'm not the only weird one!!! Spatts thats exactly what I'm talking about!!!!!!! It just feels like the worlds worst crick. I dunno. Debaser hit it right on. I think its when you just tense up and it tightens. I hate it.

I wish I could say that I was straining under the weight of 300+ pounds, but sadly, it was a warm-up set. :o

That is exactly what is irritating me. I wasnt even lifting that heavy either. It seems slightly worse today. The more I move it around , the more is seems less stiff.

Heat right? Right now I'm messing around with the heating pad, and using myoflex and icy hot. So would it be a good idea to use ice? Or is that only if its swelling?

ive had a dodgy neck and trapezius for about 3 weeks now. Seems to be some sort of plague that will take the world of bodybuilders by storm.

I made the mistake of jetskiing on the weekend and now the pain seems to have flared up again. (I live in sunny australia by the way :)

I think the neck/trapezius muscle is an easy muscle to strain due to its shape and position. + if not treated adequetly after the initial injury, it can often spasm for numerous days aft. (because it has to hold your head up even if it is injured).

The physio i had last year said that you should attempt to keep your head and shoulders as straight and square as possible. Also you should turn your head to each side every hour or so.
A good massues (however you spell it) can be good to even out the knots in the muscle.
