Couple of BF questions for the ladies

The gym I go to has one of those hand held BF% testers and I've been using it lately to get a baseline, I know they aren't that accurate. My wife got all gung ho and joined my gym and amazingly actually has been going. She tested her BF today and I have a few questions or questions that came from her.

With those hand held BF meters how accurate do you have to be putting in your weight? She said 137 and later found out she is 134. Next question is will your breast size make a huge difference. Thought being boobs are mostly fat so a big cup size would add a few %??? Last question is she was at 30% BF which would horrify me but I know women carry more fat but I have no idea if 30% is way high or just high?? What's a reasonable level of BF for a women?? I know I like to hang around 12% and don't really have the will or reason to go much under that but if you really want to ripped guys need to head into the single digits. What would be a reasonable range for a women?

Any help??

The machines have about 10%+- yes breasts are mostly fat so if she has really big can naturally like more then a C she likely holds a higher bodyfat. 30% is not a crazy amount check out this skinny fat thread http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/womens-fitness-female-bodybuilding-training/skinny-fat-693207.html tons of women look like this even more diet to achive that kinda look. Skinny but gooey no muscle tone or shape.

A women is considered very healthy at anywhere from 18-21% but she needs to determin the look she likes. Personally I like the way I look at about the mid way point of a contest prep 12-14%

A few pounds could make a difference of a perecentage point or so.

I'v heard those test high but for me I find they test low. I've had them tell me 13% when I knew i was closer to 16.

Bottom line is they aren't very accurate.
 
Well my wifes real problem at the moment is diet I think. She's doing cardio 5 days a week and lifting weights 2 times a week. She seems to be annoyed that she isn't making more progress looks wise than she is. She never really cared in the past so I just don't say anything unless I get a direct question and the BF% meter was a direct question. I can feel a difference but I think she really doesn't understand how fat she got. When we got married she was muscular around 120 lbs with c cups and apparently she never had to worry about what she ate.

Any ways she seems serious for whatever reason and sooner or later she'll have to get her diet under control. Still there is no way to take off 10% of BF in a few weeks it will just take time and even though it's not real accurate those meters can at least show if your make progress in one direction or another. Pretty sure that's what she is trying to figure out. Think she also has been watching me and my usual spring skinny down. LOL. I don't get far out of shape so 6-8 weeks is all it takes me to get into beach form. I think she is baffled at how fast I can everything firmed up.

That is too much cardio not enough weight lifting, if here diet is not in order I am sure you know she wont get very far. I suggest having her sign up for the site we can help her get her diet on track. How tall is she? Not like 134 is grossly obese or anything even if she was under 5 feet. How old is she?
 
She's 40 and 5ft 2inches. No she's not obese but was getting close. She just does dumb things food wise. My favorite is she'll hardly eat anything for lunch and mow down a huge dinner then go to bed 2 hours later. In my world that's just stupid to do. Like I said she does seem to be narrowing things down we'll see where this goes. Her track record of any kind of exercise isn't good and she has never worked out for more than a couple weeks straight in her life. She's been working out every week since the end of Jan. Funny thing is she does like to do out door activities.

30% is in actuality probably about average for a woman. Not saying that's desirable, just quite common. When a women gets into the teens she's going to be looking pretty ripped. Remember our bodyfat distribution is nothing at all like yours. Ours will be tightly clustered in a few areas (T&A), leaving the rest of the body relatively lean, so 18% bf on us will look quite lean. A very reasonable goal I think would be low 20's.

Yeah that is about the worst thing she can do she should be eating 5-6 small meals a day ... all the working out in the world she will never get the results she wants eating like that even if that one big meal was healthy. Get her to sign up for the site we can get her on track.
