Couch covers.. making or buying?

Has anyone here made their own slip cover for a couch? How hard is it? Should I just buy one, or do they often not fit well?

oh girl..making one can be fun and fustrating at the same time. I would measure the couch and see what you can find at stein-mart, target, etc. sometimes they can be real inexpensive.

Depends on the sofa you have and it's shape, specifially the arms.

If you can sew, it could be fun to make.

I've found fabric to be pretty expensive lately so if you're doing it just to save a few dollars you might be surprised.

I'd try one of the pre-made covers first, you can always return it if you don't like it. Bed Bath & Beyond has some and they often have 25% off coupons you can find in the junk mail. Jo-Ann's fabric also sends out coupons, so get on their mailing list if you're not already.

I just spent $200 on fabric for window treatments in the dining room. NOt curtains, just enough to go around the frames of the windows and the fabric was on sale for $6.99/yd. I had gone and looked at curtains but what I really liked would have been about $700 with hardware. I'm just gonna use a little creativity, clear pushpins and some little tassles to put this together. LOL

I was also looking to making a couch cover for our couch; but we went to do some price checking and the cheapest was somewhere around 65 dollars. We have a new couch that dev's father gave us and it is the really nice soft leather-but i must say that i dont like sitting on it naked because i run around the house naked.

Thanks for the tip's as well - now is the fun part of deciding what to do now.
