Cortisol Fat?

I've been seeing that Realcore commerical seems like hourly in the evening and then had a coworker recently ask if I'd known anything about it. I don't buy into these infomercials but told her i'd gather up as much info as I possibly could on it.

here is an article I found.

What are you guys/gals take on it?

Abdominal Cortisol Fat

Lean women who are vulnerable to the effects of stress are more
likely to have excess abdominal cortisol fat, and have higher levels
of the stress hormone cortisol, a study conducted at Yale suggests
[1].

While past studies have examined cortisol in overweight women,
this study shows that lean women with abdominal cortisol fat have
exaggerated responses to cortisol.

"We also found that women with greater abdominal cortisol fat
had more negative moods and higher levels of life stress," says
Elissa S. Epel, Ph.D., lead investigator on the study.

"Greater exposure to life stress or psychological vulnerability to
stress may explain their enhanced cortisol reactivity. In turn, their
cortisol exposure may have led them to accumulate greater
abdominal cortisol fat."

Published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, the study looked
at pre-menopausal, non-overweight women, and overweight
women who stored fat either centrally — at the waist vs.
peripherally — at the hips, and examined their stress responses
over three consecutive days.

Cortisol is linked with an increase in central abdominal cortisol fat,
which is found around the organs. People with diseases
associated with extreme exposure to cortisol, such as severe
recurrent depression and Cushing’s disease also have large
amounts of visceral fat.

Not only is cortisol linked with the storage of abdominal cortisol fat,
it's also been linked to all kinds of health problems, including
diabetes, heart disease and depression. Cortisol may also weaken
your immune system, leaving you more susceptible to colds and flu
[3].

We have already mentioned that there are some unique dietary
supplements available to prevent abdominal cortisol fat. The
better ones like CortiDiet™ and Relacore™ will also assist in other
areas of weight loss such as thermogenesis and appetite control.

We have entire sections of this website dedicated to reviewing
abdominal cortisol fat and cortisol control supplements. Click on

I"m sure it contributes but I sort of feel like these supplements are taking advantage of a single contributor to a larger problem and saying basically "all your fat is from stress, its not your fault that you are a fat ass -- its just all the crap the world throws at you and leaves you no alternative other than to get fat -- so take X supplement and get skinny & happy again". Cop out. Probably w/ the stress comes shitty eating habits, quickly lunches at McDonalds, lots of cigarette smoking, drinking, lousy sleeping habits, constantly being wired, lots of coffee and then sleeping pills, etc. etc. etc. We've all discovered that if you get to the gym a little and take responsibility for your diet, the stress & the fat go away. These supps probably throw in other stuff like thermos, etc. that may help to address some of the things, but really if the real problems aren't addressed (i.e. creating a responsible lifestyle) then the effects of the supplements are probably going to rebound or just go away in the long run anyway.

My opinion. I used to work 60 hrs/week as an engineer and went to school for a computer science degree - so I was literally strapped to my computer 24/7. I made time for the gym, probably was a little more short on sleep because of the time in the gym, but that time in the gym meant that I could sleep better and have a stress outlet from all the time in front of the computer. Popping pills would NOT have fixed the stress level.

Ummm, all I can say is a fool and her money are soon parted.

Undoubtedly excess cortisol can contribute to central obesity, especially if you have a shitty high GI/high saturated fat diet, but I cannot find a single shread of scientific evidence that magnolia bark reduces excess cortisol OR causes fat loss. It does appear to reduce anxiety (at least in rats) via the same receptors as valium, but did you ever hear of anyone getting shredded by taking valium??? Use you head...There are dozens of research papers that show, in humans, that good old fashioned exercise mobilizes abdominal fat quite nicely. Meditation has been shown to reduce cortisol. It's not rocket science.

But exercise is so, well, unmarketable.

So true! Now keep in mind this is the same woman that said "I don't want to log my diet and see how many cals Im taking in vs burning cause its to much work"

I've convinced her that she needs a solid training regime but as for her diet.. it still sucks.
