Cool cars in the 30-40K range?

I'm hooked on the Lexus IS250, and assuming my stock makes a rebound this year, I want to get a new ride. I need something 4 door, I've been in a 2 door coupe since 1999 (Eclipse). Also, since I snowboard and often times drive to Mammoth something AWD (All Wheel Drive) would be nice. I want to make sure I check out other comprable cars in that class. Any suggestions, I'm thinking:
BMW 3 series
Audi A4
Mercedes C Class
Volvo?

Anything else?

WRX is nice becaause of the AWD but its a bit small for my taste. I need something with room, 4 grown adults comfortably.

the srt8 JGC is fun, i drove my buddies and feel in love! full time 4 wheel drive (awd) that thing takes off like a rocket. I was surprised and it handles very well. I've been picking out cars/trucks kinda debating what to get. It's going on the list for sure though.

That's why I said "...or Legacy". The 2.5GT is nice, and you won't see mirror images of yourself coming and going all over San Diego. It's an interesting alternative to the usual choices in that price range.

If you're set on AWD, I wouldn't bother with the BMW, the AWD system on the 3-series doesn't help the on-road performance any, from what I hear.

good luck on that stock rebound, markets are crashing, US is tanking, housing bubble is popping, nothing but doom and gloom.

you better look into getting a used pinto.

Either of those two. Most BMW's (especially the 3 series) are associated with tools, or at least people who act like them. It's the car that screams "Look at me, I'm so awesome in this sweet ass car" you can see it written all over their attitude.

My next door neighbor, who is one of the nicest people I know, bought a used 3-series last year. He tells me he still drives the same as always, but everyone around him acts like assholes. People won't give him a break in traffic, won't let him change lanes or merge, go out of their way to cut him off. It's like they automatically assume he's an asshole and go out of their way to make things difficult. His other car is a pickup truck with a ladder rack. He says his commute to work is night and day different in the two vehicles, without him doing anything different.

He should probably trade it in. ;)

But serious it's true about that car, I've known a couple people who fit the stereotype. It ruins it for the good people, sadly.

M3's are cool. If I ever got a Bimmer though it would be the M5-

This car commands class and sophistication. Toolbags inquire elsewhere. ;)

that is true. I ve had 3 sport bikes in the last few years and sport bikes are best. but i am done with them after some nasty spills. both last 2 wrecks i have had were on the track (i posted pics of my total bike and my wrecked leg)

esp me as i would ride as if i knew it was my last time. just fuck it and hit the throttle

i dont see the point of a sport bike on city roads... ive i got another it would be track bike only

lestat test drive everything bro. maybe a infiniti g35 sedan? 4wd aval in that as well

lol. sweet cars bro (cept the boxer)

but i want something with SIZE, 4 grown adults man, and AWD probably also a must have for me at this point.

Great advice on the BMWs guys, I'm not seriously considering it, but I need to at least check them out before dropping 35K on a Lexus. Due dilligence is how i see it.

lestat ,what do you think of the sub baja? i like em,different aswell, not something everyone and their brother has

Well, in the rear view mirror it's hard to tell "SUBARU" from "BRABUS"...

Eh, I never understood people who wanted an entry level mercedes, bmw, audi, lexus, etc. all that says to me is that you cant afford the real thing, but you want the status of the name and this entry level one will just have to do. Youd get more bang for your buck on a Honda or Toyota or Nissan or Mazda IMO

I've driven a mitsubishi the last 7 years, I've ridding in all of my co workers luxury cars. I've driven many of them too and I notice a difference. Sometimes its subtle things, like seat air conditioners, or a quieter ride. Other times its braking or other safety features.

those entry level luxury cars aren't at entry level prices when said and then with the good options added. they are highly praised by almost all editors of any car magazine. i think most cars are way overpriced too, especially luxury cars. at least hyundai now is trying to give you some bang for you buck.

yeah with options the entry levels are easily 40K

said and done with the good options added it would around 43k. that is not an entry level price. you can take the 43k and put it in some good investments and 7 years later have made a gain, instead of a car that isn't even worth half the price you paid for. then again, you only live once and you might care more about styling and profiling than retirement. of course, you could be loaded too and you can easily part with 43k.

speaking of brabus, I found out that they make a 6 speed manual conversion for MB AMG cars. it will only cost you a lovely $25,000.

I've got retirement going too, but by no means rich. A Car is a status symbol too, now matter how much anyone wishes it wasn't.

speaking of which, i saw a new rolls royce on the road. it was black with tan leather and talk about putting the smack down. the car just screams, "I'm so filthy fucking rich, it's not even funny." that is what you call a fine auto.

Gold plated ford Taurus. Why are you buying new? Why not buy something like a 2003 or 2004 E series instead of a 2006 C series? You cut about 40% off the price just by buying a 2-3 year old car.

I'm already taken... though I'm not THAT used.

Lessytat,

I spent about 6 months researching that price segment... the equivalent, at least, in Germany. Fuel economoy, Fun-to-drive and 4 doors were my major points.

Sadly, you don't get the IS220d over there, cause that was the result of my research. It swept the floor with the 320, the C220 the A4 1.9, 2.0 AND 2.7 (amazingly)...

Apparently, the IS250AWD is not bad in the fuel economy (for a AWD car that is). I test-drove the normal RWD 250 and it was OK... I t lacks the torque of the Diesel though, but very quiet and a nice ride. It needs the manual gears, though (at least for me, I hate automatics)

Anyway, you cannot trust magazines, this being Germany, every German magazine blaste the IS against the german competition, I drove them all, to make my own mind and that is the ultimate test. That thing has 3 years unlimited warranty, so they are pretty confident.

I absolutely despise Ford Motor Company but, the Mustang GT with it's old school looks is without a doubt the coolest car on the road for the price.
