concerning the cops who were busted

Try being a cop sometime. I used to be one. Sherrif's Office. And if you've ever seen a 3 year old girl beat to shit by her old man on crack... then you'll say "fuck you" to your own argument.
I've seen shit that people who whine about drug use can only dream about.
You're right... if it's gonna kill the fucker doin' it... GOOD. Let the fucker be dead. But if he's gonna hurt someone else... then FUCK THE COMPOUND!

The problem is, people ARE NOT responsible enough to handle the drugs "responsibly". You sayin' that someone on heroin is going to think "logically" about what he's doing while on? Or how much he should take?

Shit, man... Wait until you see a 18 month old baby laying on the street face down in a small puddle of his own blood, because an intoxicated driver (smoking a joint while running the stop sign) could handle his drug. Then are you gonna think that the cops should bust child abusers? Because by arresting the guy who was intoxicated, we took a CHILD MURDERER off the streets. Far worse than a child abuser.

I hate to say it, but 70% of domestic assaults in this country are commited by people after the consumption of alcohol. Needless to say more dangerous drugs. So by going after the drugs... they are taking out some more serious crime.

No offense... but fuck this argument.

As you can see... this sorta shit pisses me off. More bitching an whining from someone who pretends to know.

BBV,

Punishing and arresting those that commit crimes, crimes as defined as DIRECT harm to society, is an important and often under respected job.

however, it does come back to this- Drugs should not be illegal and the billions of dollars that go to fight them should go to education, rehabilitation and most importantly IMPROVING SOCIAL WELL BEING AND WEAL. People have problems- drugs can amplify them but in some cases they can also soothe them. I do not believe that heavy drug use is good, far from it. However, I take issue with the way that society deals with it.

btw- many cops are just doing there job- just like the guy at the bank, who probably missed some of his credit card payments too, but he still has to deny you a loan. etc. etc. etc.

Mac, don't get me wrong. I absolutely understand the principles behind the topic.

What I'm trying to say is that often people who would normally not commit the crimes without the assistance of a drug, lose their inhibitions, and carry out acts of violence, crime, etc.

I understand that to some cops, it's just a job. That's why I couldn't keep it up in that profession. I was so pissed, and so angry at what people do to defenseless, innocent children, that at times, I could hardly keep it in. And then, not to kill the guy, but put him in cuffs, and treat him with courtesy so the fucker doesn't get off on police brutality (which does NOT require actual brutality to be claimed), was just too much for me. I'd rather bust a guys legs in a parking lot who's smackin' his kid around. I have less of a chance of getting in trouble that way.

In any case, I just plain disagree with the total drug being legal bit. We spend a whole shitload of money fighting it. And a whole shitload of money housing those in jail that possess/sell it.

But I can't accept a steroid being in any way like other "recreational" drugs. I never had to arrest someone for plowing into a minivan with 4 kids inside, because he was impaired from his Equipoise shot.

what you say the money should goto rehabilitation? Huh? so make the damn drugs cheap, let everyone get on them, so we can see our tax money goto rehabilitation projects instead? I don't think so...

and why blame the whole thing on government when it is the individuals who are doing the killing? it is ultimately the individual who owe a responsibility to society as a whole... Maybe the drugs should be legal, maybe they shouldn't... but saying because they are illegal is the reason all the crimes are commited is just BS... the conscience lies in the individual.. those that don't have one don't deserve to live..

Drugs in the US are our BIGGEST business!!! Its a win-win situation. The Feds make the drugs illegal, the dealers make CRAZY money, law enforcement makes money(dirty cops) and when they bust dealers who do you think gets the money?? yep..Uncle Sam.
Alcohol is FAR more dangerous in this country!! How do you think the Kennedys made all their money?? Bootlegging booze!! As far as crime goes-look at some of the European countries were drug laws are lax...crime is almost zero. The war on drugs generates so much money in this country!!! How many jobs would be lost without illegal drugs(juice included)!! All of those drugs are illegal in the US-Class A,B,C,D..all illegal. If you think its wrong to blast a line of coke...then don't!! Not ok to shoot some test..don't do it.People in this country would die if they know who were involved in the drug trade. The US has the MOST drugs coming in,because we buy so much of it!!
I know first hand about what I'm talking about because I had lots of time to think being locked up 23 hrs a day because of my involvement in the trade.I'm not crying cause it was my choice and I had to swallow my medicine!!!

Legalizing crack/cocain, Heroin etc.... would immediately create a subculture of people who were dead to the world, only interested in where their next fix come from, no matter how they have to get it. WELL, IF DRUGS WERE LEGAL- THEY WOULD NOT HAVE TO DO A WHOLE LOT- COST WOULD BE MINIMAL- CHEAPER THAN ALCOHOL- BTW- GIVEN A STEADY SUPPLY OF DRUGS THERE ARE AND WOULD BE MANY FUNCTIONAL, EVEN PRODUCTIVE DRUG ADDICTS How could anyone advocate the legalization of a drug that could cause a man to lose all of his mental faculties and douse his kid in a pot of boiling water? SOUNDS LIKE AN ABUSIVE DRUNK, NOT A HEROIN ADDICT

THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM OF WHAT CAUSES ADDICTION IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, NOT THE DRUGS THEMSELVES. Drugs are tools and they can be misused, so are guns, knives, cars, medicines(drugs), etc etc....

PROHIBITION, DOES NOT, WILL NOT AND CAN NOT WORK in a free society.

The war on drugs is lost but we still pay an immense cost to go through the motions.

BigPhysicsBastard... all I can say, is RIGHT ON.

I agree 100%. No one can control any underlying issues. What are you gonna do if you legalize crack? Make everyone who walks into purchase it take a psychological evaluation?

You can't get rid of the tendencies of a user. The only way to control the user is to control the substance.

Jesus. Even if a guy was Johhny Laidback... he may not be once that black tar heroin hits his system. He may freak out, rape a chick, kill a kid, and attack a group of old women playing bingo... because he can't prevent himself from doing so.

How can someone control an issue with a mind altering drug, that renders the person's conscious mind almost completely powerless?

It is misconceptions like these that make people beleive that the war on drugs is one that is worth fighting.

1. people who are on Heroin are not doing much of anything- similar effects as morphine- feel good sleepy.

2. people going crazy and such is often the result of ADULTERATED drugs- something that would NOT happen if they were legal(well not might be too strong, considering how often we have E coli poisening)

3. Countries that have legalized drugs have crimes rates that are considerably lower- especially violent crime.

4. Most drug related crimes are CAUSED DIRECTLY by the high price and low availability of drugs.

I do not advocate drug use, far from it- but the approach we have taken-declaring war on drugs- DOES NOT WORK- it did not work in the 20's and its not going to work now.
