Ok, i always get confused with which part is concentric/eccentric, so xplain this to me real quick :) in benching, curling, um, frenchpress, military press :) which is which! :) lol thanks, and sorry for the novice questions lol

Well, basiclly a concentric muscular contraction is one where the muscle is shortening against resistance and an eccentric contraction is one where the muscle is elongating against resistance. It's important to have strength concentrically and eccentrically, especially with opposing muscle groups.

The concentric movement occurs when the force generated by the muslce is greater than the force generated by the resistance about the torque arm. [You are contracting your muslce and lifting the weight.]

The eccentric movement occurs when the the force generated by the muslce is less than the force generated by the reistance about the torque arm. [You are allowing or being forced to let the muscle expand instead of contract]

The isometric movement occurs when the force generated by the muscle is the same as the force generated by the resistance about the torque arm. [You are trying to contract the muscle, but it cannot contract. However, you are not letting it elongate either. It stays still - builds strenght at that ONE range of motion].

Isokinetic - movement has same speed throughout.
Isotonic - muscle has same tension throughout movement.

This is what i remember from my text book :D

ok, con = going up, ecc = going down.. so then
when your benching, and you unrack the weight, first comes the eccentric, then concentric
when your curling, and you first lift the weight off the ground, first comes the concetric when you bring the weight up, then eccentric when you bring it back down
and....hm, french press, your holding thet weight over head and bring it down, thats eccentric then you bring it back up overhead, concentric lol :) am i right?
