Computer problems!! Please HelP!

Im running a clone 1GHz celeron with 128 mb ram, 40 gb harddrive on Windows ME.

Just a couple of weeks ago, system performance slowed down, especially using any internet browser. Graphics display speed is normal when loading webpages, but entering any characters in feilds available on webpages- even typing the characters comprising this post - is extremely delayed. It takes a second or 2 for soem letters to display after Ive typed them.

System is freezing and crashing all the time. Running a thorough scan disk and defrag does nothing. And theres a high pitched faint whine emitting from my box when the mouse cursor is idle. When the mouse pointer is moved, a similar high pitched static noise is heard. These noises wernt there a couple weeks ago and makes me think its a hardware problem.

Ive ran some anti-spyware programs. Found a lot of junk but didnt help. Running house call from trendmirco at the moment.

Oh yea, and right before the computer will freeze, a audiable clicking or faint ker-chunk ( i know) can be heard. Happens almost everytime the computer freezes.

Any suggestions???? I neeed it!

I'm sorry to inform you that EF Sam has appropriated your computer's energy to continuously play the 24-hour remix version of Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama."

Hey, if its for a good cause ;)

Yep, your screwed... your thingamagig is torqued way too tight... try to kick it and see if that will release tention in the watchamacallit...

seriously, check what programs are installed and whats running in the background using Ctrl+alt+del

also see what microsoft upgrades were recently installed by going to the add remove programs and looking for them....

as for the noise... probably a really shitty factory hard drive thats going crazy or a wire thats in front of a fan.... makes all kinds of noise.. crack open the case and check it out.

REMEMBER NOT TO TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE UNTIL YOU UNPLUG THE COMPUTER FROM THE BACK...WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND GROUND YOURSELF OR YOU COULD ZAP YOUR SHIT TO HELL.

if you have any kind of virus scanners running they will cause your computer to slow up a little bit... and they are effected by addons from microsoft... try to turn them off and see if that helps... if your completely lost pm me

your hard drive could be about to bite the dust: save anything important

have you added alot of hardware? maybe its the power supply.

Let us know what housecall comes up with.

Backup your files, install another 256 MB RAM, format, install Windows XP (or windows 98, or better yet, Linux.)

Windows ME is responsible for all evil in the world. Bad bad shit.

Thanks for all the help bros! Seriously, its much appreciated.

I ran another scan disk, defrag, regisrty medic, and trendmicrohousecall - did not solve the problem.

Computer is extremely unstable - crashing 99% of the time if hte system is operational for over 1/2 hour. Ran Evidence eliminator last night and after the windows temp file was delteed i Was able to actually boot up my computer without it freezing.

No hardware has been added in the past 1.5 years. Ctl - alt- dlt quiting unnecessary programs does nothing. Anayylsis and removal of all spyware/viri/trojans automatically loaded during start up does nothing.

I just opened an account at www.ibackup.com. goonna back up all indispensible files, add another 256 mb ram - thanks sughure - and reformat.

THanks for the help guys.
