computer problem help my buddy (porn related)

A buddy of mine has opend a porn site at his computer at work..he deleted the history, cookies and internet files....but the url is still in the adress bar..what can he do to erase the url from his computer, and yes it really is my buddy not me :)

The correct way to fix this problem is to:

1. Close Internet Explorer. These instructions won't work if it is opened because it saves the entries when it exits and loads the entries when it starts.
2. Click on Start, then on Run and enter 'regedit' in the entry field and press enter.
3. Once in the Regedit program navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs and delete whichever entry you want. Don't delete the group TypedURLS, just the entries inside of it!

That should take care of you. If it doesn't work then you didn't follow my instructions correctly. :) Also, I take no liability for you fucking up your computer. Make sure you do to the location that I specified in the registry, that is really important. :)

I emailed this to him and called him later on but he can't find

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

in the regedit program ..he has done exactly what you said a couple of times (closed Internetexplorer) and run regedit...what is he doing wrong?

BTW he has run adaware and history has also been deleted

He's dumb then because it is quite easy.

He doesn't know shit about computers...I did the same on my computer and even I found it ...I talked him through and he has found it to...but there were 2 items inside HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs ...1 he could not delete and the porn url still is in his adress bar ... the adress bar seems to be empty but when he types www.p pornauditions (the site he visited :), never heard of it) pops up again

oh, that's autocomplete. Do this to turn it off.

Go to Internet Explorer. Then Go to The Tools Menu > Internet Options > The Content Tab > And then the AutoComplete button second from the bottom. In there he can either uncheck "Use autocomplete for web addresses" or he can clear the forms. Either one.

D'oh! I didn't know he was talking about his AutoComplete feature! Do what slickdadd suggests and he should be able to clear his AutoComplete forms.

The only other way to get rid of that is to download the program located here: http://www.fsm.nl/ward/ and follow the instructions on the webpage. It's pretty complicated so I don't know if your friend can use it. You have to find your index.dat file using search and delete the URLs from it. It's pretty tricky...

Good luck!

That's what he needs to do.
