college apps and criminal records

I'm applying to a program that's asking me to name everything I've been convicted of. The thing is it's not a required question, so theoretically I could just leave it blank and act like I never saw it; this way I'm not actually lying. I'm really tempted to do this, but obviously if they find out I have some shit I'm probably screwed. Do y'all think a school in California would find a misdemeanor in Virginia?

No, They are not worried about misdemeanors. The schools are attempting to keep out thugs that have class I felonies. Good Luck.

I doubt you need to worry about a misdemeanor. If I were you, I'd list it...I'm assuming they could find it using your SSN as reference. Are you sure the app didn't just say, felony?

i'd always be up front, seems they are going to find out anyway
and could be like "wtf, was he trying to hide from us?"

They aren't going to check unless you are asking for big scholorship dollars or trying to get into a particularly presigious/competitive program.

If you are going the high-end route, they'll do more vetting because no university wants to tell the benefactor that endowed the program position after the fact.

if you tell them they are more likely to excuse it than if you dont- if it was a misdemeanor drug offense- chances are they will interview- face to face just to see how you present yourself- then they will ask you to explain why you did what you did- and why they should accept you verses someone who doesn't have a record.
