coffe in a pwo shake..any effects besides good taste?

guys, so i've kinda gotten a bit addicted to putting some coffe in my PWO shake...I just love the taste... Currently i'm mixing coffee, water, about 15g of dextrose, 5g creatine and about 35g of whey.

I know that creatine makes you retain water, while cofee is a diuretic and dehydrates you, but I figure that because I drink plenty of water during the day, I can get away with it...

But, I was wondering if there are any negative effects of drinking coffee after lifting?

A guy I work with always throws it in his myoplex shake, just some black coffee. It wouldn't slow down absorbtion and if its black its not adding any additonal calories so if you like the taste go for it. But like you said caffeine is a diuretic so after intense exercise just make sure that you follow it up with plenty of water. Coffee will give you some antioxidants as well.

Yeah, i work out in the mornings...6am... I also find that after working out and having a PWO shake without any coffee makes me really tired and wanting to fall asleep...

Caffeine will have diuretic properties which will result in an increase in urination. This may then lead to an imbalance in the body's water / sodium ratio and result in dehydration. Creatine is a cell-volumiser which is reliant upon the presence of sufficient water and also existing sodium. It will also have diuretic properties due to the breakdown of creatine into creatinine which must be removed from the body. In moderation, the consumption of caffeine should not pose a problem. Higher rates of consumption of caffeine from all sources (i.e.: coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, thermogenic supplements) will interfere with the resynthesis process of phosphocreatine and should be avoided.
