I've only been lifting for a short time and I have been running 6+ miles a week and lifting 5 days a week. What do you guys think? Is this counter productive or is this alright. Any responses would be appreciated.

Thanks

It really depends on what you are trying to do. Where are you now and where do you want to be? Post your stats and what you want to get out of your workouts. This well help us answer your question.

How much running do you do at one time?

How many times a week to you run?

Do you run on the same day as you lift?

There are many schools of thought for cardio. Some people think HIIT workouts burn more fat and are better for you. Some people think that doing longer workouts at high level burn more fat and are better for you. Either way it is cardio and the best program maybe to combine both.

I'd probably suggest doing a :45 minute run on your first off day (from lifting) and a :20-:30 minute run with hills or stair laps at a stadium on your next off day. IMO longer workouts result in more fat burning, but some disagree. Both workouts are excellent for building overall fitness. Don't do too many intervals and don't do to many endurance days. Mix it up.

Post some more info.

Oh yeah I forgot to ask what your goals were?

If you are hoping to gain size longer workouts should definitely be limited, but they still have their place.
