Cardio Before Lifting

So I was wondering if there were any benefits to warning up with cardio before lifting. Like a 10 min jog on the treadmill at a moderate pace. I don't currently do it but any benefits?

Currently I do 45-50 minutes on treadmill (3.8 mph @ 8%-10%) prior to weights, and I know Dylan does extensive cardio sessions prior to weights as well...I do to really warm up the body, and while I am on the treadmill I map out my workout in my head, and get really good lifts in! I feel better being warmed up and sweating when hitting weights...and no real impact on my strength either.

It depends on your level of conditioning. When you first start you may see a slight drop in strength, but once your body adapts to it youll be fine. I prefer to split it myself and focus on lifting and cardio at seperate times. If your schedule doesnt allow it then doing it before lifting is your best bet. After you lift your main priority is feeding the machine. You also have to realize that everyone is different and the only way to know how you will do is to give it a shot. Try it for 4-6 weeks and see how you progress.

^ I agree completely! I like doing cardio first thing in the morning. I cant stand doing it before/after lifting. If I do it before lifting it just takes my mind off what I need to be thinking about. And after lifting I am way to worn out to do cardio. I either do it first thing in the morning or later at night.

It takes time for your body to adapt but ive gotten to the point now to where i would lift like shit if i didnt cardio before...

Yep same here. I do 30 - 60 min of moderate intensity, usually running or eliptical. I have to get the blood flowing before I lift real hard. And I do the same, I think about what exercises im gonna hit and what can I mix up this time. If ur gonna go balls out cardio (like hiit) i'd wait till after weights. unless ur a fitness freak of nature like dylan then do whatever u want.

How could you NOT do a warm up before hitting the weights?

I do a circuit of bodyweight stuff--push-ups/lunges/pull-ups and some should work to warm up the body before hitting weights and do my conditioning (hill sprints/interval jump rope/running) after my weight lifting session and a protein shake. Sorta depends on what you prefer. Personally, I cant stand doing 30-40 minutes of low intensity cardio so I do high intensity stuff which ends up having to come after weights otherwise I'd end up tired.
