Ok I broke my arm 2 1/2 weeks ago and have had one medium leg workout since. Now that I have a cast I am trying to go more regularly.

Anyway I went yesterday and was gonna do abs ss/lunges and back ss/calves.

I tried to do lunges but it just wasn't working with 1 arm. So instead I decided to do 1 min. on the exercise bike at 100 rpm at level 12 (the highest) for my leg "sets" between abs. So that's what I did for the last 2 sets.

The cycling left me out of breath and burning slightly but nothing crazy.

After my last set of ab machine crunches I all of a sudden felt super dizzy and nauseated and feeling like I had diarrhea. So I just lean on the tri machine for a while and it doesn't get much better. I almost feel like I don't know where I am. I almost walked the wrong direction to the bathroom.

So I drag a trashcan into the stall and sit down. I get a little diarrhea but don't puke. After like 20 mins I'm sick of waiting around and I leave even though I still felt pretty bad. Over the course of the next couple of hours I pretty much return to normal.

So I have a few theories to throw out there, let me know if any of them makes sense.

1. After taking quite a few Vicodin ESs over the course of the past 2 weeks (but no more than 2 a day for the past 4 days and none the day before) my body's natural production of endorphins was "shut down" and this was some weird reaction to that.

2. My body simply wasn't used to this type of exercise(I never do cardio or interval training) and I would've felt this way even if I had been working out regularly.

3. A combination of 2 and The fact I haven't worked out lately (i wouldn't have felt so sick if I had been working out regularly but i still would've felt it)

4. I had a very mild case of food poisoning (my guts had been feeling kinda bad but not terrible that day) that was exacerbated by the exercise bout.

5. I'm dying of a rare heart ailment or a blood clot from the surgery or something. :)

Alright I hope this wasn't too long winded or grossed too many people out.

Thanks

JC

its prob a combination of all those things... but really you should get off the vicodin-- I mean 2 1/2 wks for a broken arm???

thats way overkill... its for PAIN-- if your in so much pain that you still need vicodin-- you should not be at the gym

I agree with MsBeverlyHills. Only take pain meds when you are really in pain, i.e., when you can't stand it.

Were you drinking lots of water during your workout?

OK this is why I was on it for so long:

First I broke and dislocated it. They reduced the joint and sent me home. So I'm taking regular vikes for that for about 5 days. On the sixth day I have some pretty serius surgery where they put in 3 screws and pin my ligameny back on the bone. That hurts like hell. So I am on ES vikes for about 5 days, tapering off. One week after surgery they take off the splint and put me in a cast in a different position. It starts to hurt again, so I take a few vikes over the next couple of days.

So it's not like I have been taking vikes every 4-6 hours every dfay for 2 1/2 weeks. And when I did take then i had every reason to.

So give a guy some credit would you? I've been around and I'm not stupid enough to get addicted to hydrocodone.

Alright, I'm ready for more answers and sorry if I got a bit testy.

LOL No prob. You weren't testy, anyway. I did have a friend who got addicted, so I worry.

I shattered every bone in my wrist when I was 17, so I understand a little what you must be going through. I still put on my coat lefty after all these years because of it.

I really have no answers for you except the water comment.

lol i know exactly what u mean. i am learning to put my left (the cast arm) through first.

as far as h2o i was drinking it throughout the workout at the fountain.

well leg day today was fairly intense and went well.

so i will try the bike thing again on wed and see how it goes.

take it easy man, your body is probably trying to spend all its energy on healing, it doesnt want you to destroy yourself with workouts, that might delay the healing and also cause your body to get sick, telling you to slow the fuck down. just chill enjoy another wk or so off, then do some LIGHT cardio, let your arm heal.

Just wanted to say I did the same workout today and was fine. Did 3 "sets" of the bike.

I felt light headed (like normal) but didn't get the terrible urge to puke or shit.

So I'm guesing it was mild food poisoning.

Thanks for the replies.
