My calves have nice size, problem is SHAPE. My soleus is nice, but my gastrocs seem flat and unpreportioned. Shouldnt they be a decent amount bigger than my soleus? They rise maybe a quarter inch above my soleus. I cant seem to isolate my gastrocs no matter what. I feel all the burn in my ankles and soleus. DAMNIT. Someone please help.

straight leg position for gastroc.

Calf raises with double bodywieght for high reps

(why higher reps - short stroke - less tut so do more reps)

I know HOW to work the gastrocs, it just doesnt seem to work. I do a ton of straight leg calf raises.

Now, are you telling me to do shorter stroke reps for higher reps? I usuially do 20 reps for all my sets, full range of motion at a fast pace. If shorter strokes, do i do the top half or the bottom half?

I think he meant the calf raise has a small range of motion so the stroke is short, so you should do them slower with mreo reps to increase TUT. If I understood him right that is..

do your workout as you are used to but try to incorporate to your raises these three positions (all in straight legs)...

1) toes together feet together
2) toes apart feet together
3) toes together feet apart

this works a lot for shape on different parts of calves...

hope this helps!

teen is correct - full ROm just bump the rpes up

and don't do your reps at a fast pace. that's the number one mistake i believe. you don't see doing chest presses bouncing the weight up and down real fast do you? why should you do that with your calves? if anything, because of the real small rom, calf raises need a longer rep tempo.
