caffeine and cortisol

No. Stimulants, like caffeine, may well increase coritsol levels but it's a silly idea to suggest that 2-4 cups of black coffee a day makes you put on fat.

What IS true is that sellers of coffee like Starbucks, Costa etc don't sell that many plain old fashioned black coffee (and if they do they give it a fancy name). They DO, however, sell a LOT of variations on Lattes etc which contain a LOT of calories. Heck some of the special seasonal versions (xmas ones for example) can easily be 700+ calories. Even a plain black one with 2 sugars starts to add calories if you drink a lot.

Example, an ex GF of mine was consuming something like 11 teas and coffees a day. She asked me to suggest how to lose weight. I cut the amount in half and she dropped 4+ pounds in a month with no other changes. It'd have worked just as well if she'd had the same amount as before but swapped sugar for a sweetener.

It is on the contrary - stimulants will increase cortisol levels, and since caffeine is a stimulant, so it will do.

be careful the coffee addicts will go apeshit in this thread :)

but seriously the #1 problem with coffee and why i don't drink the shit is that it fucks up your sleep and people already have trouble sleeping as it is. when you take caffeine you inhibit GABA in the body.. that is our calming neurotransmitter

that is why people who drink a lot of coffee are all jittery and nervous all the time and can't sleep for shit

It's the opposite. Stimulants when abused can raise cortisol levels and cause adrenal fatigue.

Your adnreal glands regulate your body's sex hormones (testosterone, estrogen), stress hormones (cortisol) and water retention hormones (aldosterone, ADH).

A stressed adrenal gland = high cortisol levels = higher body fat.

The best thing to do is keep caffeine use to a minimum. You don't need more than a couple cups per day. I would even suggest going off all together for a couple days or even weeks.
