Bulking/Cutting vs. standard diet for building maximal lean mass WITHOUT gear

okay it is real simple,,, what are your goals,,, if you want to be pretty and look good for the girls then go with a baseline diet. If you want to get big then pound the food.

The facts are if you want to gain muscle at a decent rate you are going to pack some fat on. Show me someone that is eating a baseline diet and I will show you someone that is only gaining 3 to 5 lbs of muscle a year if they are clean.

What I suggest. eat 2 x your b.w. in protein grams per day. Keep your carbs limited to complex sources. Cut the carbs back before you go to bed. Eat plenty of EFA's ,,, flax oil, olive oil etc.

Yes you are going to put on some fat,,, nothing that cant be cut off in a couple of months. You tell me gain 2 or 3 lbs of muscle a year eating a baseline diet for the next five years. You will stay lean but only gain 10-15 lbs of muscle. Pound all the protein you can over the next year. Gain 40 lbs,, , say 15 of it is fat and 25 is muscle,,, you can cut that 15 in a couple of months and walk away with more than you would have gained in 5 years the other way. What do you think is better

well basically my goals are to gain as much lean mass as possible without getting too tubby to stay quick as an outcenter (I play college rugby). Gaining a little bit of fat isn't going to kill me, but if I gain a pound of fat for every pound of muscle, which I am doing now that Im bulking, Im not going to be as agile. Aesthetics and vanity are always nice, but definitely secondary.

What I'm planning on doing right now is to bulk until about 4 weeks before season starts (mid september), then start to burn off the fat. (I've been bulking for about two months now). I'll probably also bulk similarly in the winter off season. I am just wondering if people think it would be reasonable to maintain a static diet instead of bulking/cutting diet. Doesn't seem to be the popular opinion...

Thanks for the replies.

Just eat big and clean. Chose oatmeal, yams, potatoes and rice as your carbs (fruit and veggies too). Get your protein in and that's it. If you start to feel fat do some cardio.
