Bruce Greig's Canadian Nationals

what a kick-ass meet. I already posted on goheavy, but here is the synopsis:

Brent Mikesell tried 1100lbs on the squat, and he just missed it! I know this is coming really soon for him but he did FINALLY get his 800lb pull.

Kieran Kidder tried 1000lbs on the squat and just missed it.

There were some other good lifters as well. I am trying to remember but was focused on myself mainly and was already drinking by the awards ceremony, so I am not sure if I am totally correct.

Chris Weirs (sp?) did a 2200+ total.

Russ Barlow and Bruce Greig, both master lifters, posted some 2100+ totals... unbelievable.

Myself: well i didnt have a perfect meet, but i would up with some PRs and a WA State Record 2017.25 lb total.

Full details of my experience can be found at:

Deceiver: thanks for checking on me :) I have also been posting on the Anabolic review too.

Hannibal: we should talk about the box squat experiment. I am not happy with my depth and i am going to try and lower the box this time around.

Ya bro congrats! I got your email and yoru numbers are great. I see why you didnt say perfect day. You left some in the tank on the bench. But man you still went big. Next meet you'll go 860, 600, 700. Later.

Congratulations man. That is a monster total. Congrats on the Elite by the way.

Give us the play by play of your lifts when you get the chance. Good job again.

B.

Fuckin' Hell Yeah! Now that's what I'm talkin about. A 2,000+ total on an off day. Way to go, Irish! Monster total!

So the box experiement gets a thumbs down I take it.

Congrats on the ELITE. PR's and a State Record...on a bad day...that's STRENGTH.

wow!! i love how you c an say y ou didnt have the g reatest meet, but endned up with a 2000+ total. congrats big guy. Absolutely incredible.

thanks for the congrats guys!

i gave the wrong impression when i said i was not happy with the day. i just fucked up my shirt situation, and tweaked my lower back the week before.

It was a PR total for me and I am happy as a pig in shit.

the westside training works! but the secret is in the customization.

again.. thanks to everyone for their support.

goggins was not there.

other lifters that did well included

Zack Hudak (~2050),
Brian Meek (~2050)
Chris Wiers (~2200ish)
Brent Mikesell
Bruce Greig
Russ Barlow

There were also a shitload of canadians in the lighter classes 242 and under that did well, but I don't know all their names yet.

officially, it will be brent mikesell's apf meet in april.

he has 2 275ers that are awesome and i want to go against again. i talked so much shit when i was drunk after the meet that i need to back it up, too :)

next stop: apf nationals but i have heard rumors they may dissolve nationals and make it an entry into a wpc meet only. that would suck.

i am sure i am going to get a bug up my ass to hit that 600 bench before then though. i think one can do bench meets between 3 lift meets without killing yourself, so one day maybe you'll see a surprise post of me doing a 600 somewhere.

It feels like Groundhog day in my life.... trying over and over again to get 600 on the goddamn bench.

But i have met a few great guys here (bmonster, pljay) who are helping me with this problem.

Bruce Greig

Hey Irish Power , just reading that you were up at our north americans in red deer last summer . I competed there too in the teen class. I am presently and have always trained under Bruce Greig and own him everything for what he has done for me. Hope to see you at his next meet

i will be there. March 22. I am bringing a bunch of friends to compete too.

Bruce is an awesome lifter and all-around asset to the sport.

take care.

Congrats, hope we meet at the APF sr's, you doing enough meets? how many you normally do in a year anyway?

db,

were you asking me that? i don't know... i've done too many.

apf seniors is a very tentative for me right now.

being a nationals, the canadians actually would qualify me for the WPO.

i will never hear the end of it from hudak and co if i don't show at apf seniors, but my body is held together with duct tape right now :) every day, a new pull and pain...

i will probably go down anyway even if i don't compete as a lot of my old friends from georgia are coming.

best of luck in your training. i'm about to try the olmo chain/band speed workout sunday for squats.
