Box squats...full squats

I do Silent Method squats - that is I squat as deep as possible for me. I have some issues with hip ROM but I make an effort to squat as deep as possible. The more I squat, the more I improve my ROM.

I'm not real sure what you mean. . . Box squats use a box, recommended 8 - 14 inches. If you think about it, no one squats deeper than 6-8 inches from the floor, because if you have an ass, its in that space :) In other words, the purpose of box squats is to break the chain of ascent and descent. You should, according to Louie, actually release a short bit before re-ascent. Instead you set up a flase choice: box squats or full range of motion. This is meaningless; they are not opposites. You should always squat all the way, as much as hip flexibility allows. Power lifters believe, in addition, that you should box squat to break the descent-ascent chain as well. Whether to use a box or not is your choice. You should ALWAYS "squat low to grow" though. I always box squat ATF. Although box squats are difficult, unpopular, messy to set up, etc. so my crappy gym is forcing me to drop the box -- or find another gym. (I always am going to have to use gloves :( as they're banning chalk))

LOL...thanks for clearing that up....I drop my ass to the floor bro....but I've seen guys that bearly break 90 and call it a squat(box squat, half squat, whatever...) That was my basic question.

I have seen guys throw on a bunch of weight and step up and squat about 2 inches. I mean really, that is like throwing on 400lbs on a flat bench and having someone lift all the weight off of you. I guess some guys think it is impressive. I would like to be that strong but I would rather look great and look strong. I agree with everyone here, full squats are what make you grow.

I usually go down far enough that my thighs are parallel with the floor. Any deeper and I just get my lower back more involved (and risk re-injuring a disk problem). I hear what you all say though, almost everyone in the gym goes down a few inches and calls it a day :(.

Well if you had disc problems, why do you risk doing back squats at all?? I'm in the same situation and now about a year and a half after the injury I find full front squats a much safer option IMO (as far as the lower back is concerned).

during my front squats i go as low as i can with my lower weight , damn my quads get smoked
