birth control question

muskles

New member
some lady mentioned awhile ago about some form of birth control where she had the birth control device inserted, and then when she decides to have babies she can just have it taken out. what exactly is this, and how much does it cost?

thanx,

Like an IUD?? THe little T shaped piece of copper or plastic that gets put into the uterus?? I think a couple of people on here have them. They're effective and non-hormonal. Hopefully someone with one will post as I don't know a ton about them...though they are a BC recommended for people with just 1 partner as they obviously don't prevent STDs. BUT I have to say that as some in a long term relationship a non-hormonal method sounds WAY better than the pill. At least to me.

Yes, that's an IUD (Interuterine device). It prevents the egg from implanting and is as effective as the pill. The cost can range anywhere from free (Planned parenthood), to who knows--but I'm sure your insurance will cover it if you have it. It's a bit uncomfortable during placement, and you'll have heavy periods and some cramping for a little while, but it's worth it. You can leave them in for up to 10 years, and have them removed if you decide you want children within that time. But as was said, it's really for people in monogamous relationships, because there is a little fishing-wire like projection that comes down into the vagina that can act like a wick, so any STD you could get, might go directly to the uterus, increasing your chances of PVD (pelvic infammatory disease) or even sterility. So, that being said, they sometimes don't give them to women unless they've already had a child, just in case. All of this being said, if you are not vulnerable to getting STD's, they are actually very safe, very effective, and very wonderful. Hormones make me crazy, so this has been a godsend. I hope this helped:) Good luck.

OUCH!!

Ive also heard of something like that where they kinda tie up the woman's overies and then when she want to have kids they undo it.

Hmm, not so sure about trusting that technique though, surely it cant be healthy for your babies (when they are born)

thanx!

yes, the IUD was what i wanted to know about. i just can't see putting extra estrogen in my body since my goal is to gain more muscle, and get rid of fat. i'm not worried about STDs since i'm in a monogomist relationship. thanx ladies :)
