Bill Pearls 20 Months To A Champion Physique

I think that it seems to overcomplicate things with too many different exercises. Most beginners would be better served devoting 6-12months to improving their squat, deadlift, power clean, overhead press and bench press by a significant degree, then focus on minor details IF they are needed.

Just my opinion.

i just had a quick look around and i noticed some crap about upper abs and lower abs.... want my opinion....? sounds just like i said - CRAP. just another stupid BB routine with everything NOT needed in there. i couldn't help but notice that your from india... i am too and i see 90%+ of bros around here doing similar routines and getting nowhere. my advice? just stick around here and you'll learn more.

In my opinion it is a load of happy horseshit. It is everything plus 2 kitchen sinks. Bill Pearl, although you'd never guess it from reading that routine, came from the era when bodybuilders were actually as strong as they looked. Although what he did as time progressed is anybody's guess, he had a world class physique and world class strength in the 50's, before anabolics were widely used. I don't want to post something really stupid, as I cannot remember off hand the dates, but I want to say that nobody in the US really used steroids until the very late-50's when Dr. Zeigler was working with Olympic Lifters in Maryland. But anyway, it is safe to say Pearl knows the benefits of squats, pulls, and presses, and that routine can be chalked up to a sales pitch. He did a lot of stuff focusing on heavy basics, so I was a little surprised to see all that crap. You'd be better served getting strong squats, pulls, and presses.

Pretty sure is was York, PA. The book Muscletown USA might be of interest to you. It chronicles the whole history of lifting there. I haven't read it but it's on my mental list.

This guy wrote a 4 part series on the whole history of doping going back. It's absolutely the best unbiased commercial piece geared to laymen I've ever seen on the issue and its history. Well worth reading through the parts. He even interviews a lot of people. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/03001/582836.stm

I'll check it out. I know the Dr. worked with York's lifters.....then Bob Hoffman tried to market their progress as the result of isometrics, lol.....I guess this was an 'industry' even back then.

Also what I read while going through the program was that training to failure is not the way to go , as it leads to overtraining and mental fatigue .

 Wish there was a standard program for everyone .So much confusion .
