Beware simple carbs!

Simple carbs can harm your health a lot, see:

http://www.ghchealth.com/refined-sugar-the-sweetest-poison-of-all.html
http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htm
http://www.mercola.com/article/sugar/dangers_of_sugar.htm#

Some weight gainers contain simple carbs as glucose -dextrose-, that triggers the body to produce insulin, while produces highly anabolic effects, has serious risks like:

* Glucose/ simple carbs provide the best growth environment for bacterial growth.
* Your body will get used to overproduce insulin, leaving with a reactive hypoglycemia after each meal.

The answer, to use insulin.
Your body will not develop reactive hypoglycemia and since insulin speeds glucose absorption and storage as glycogen, glucose will be elevated much less in your tummy and blood.

This is pretty common knowledge. I'm not trying to flame you, as I don't flame people, but I'd be surprised if the majority of the people on this board didn't know this.

LOL, I wouldn't exactly call using injectable insulin a safer and healthier alternative to spiking blood sugar periodically.

I doubt that doing so one or two times a day during bulking phases is going to be particularly harmful.

I am not against the use of injectable insulin, but to suggest it as an alternative to weight gain shakes on the premise of health benefits is rather absurd IMO

Agree!

One of the first major diet changes I made to dump fat and water was to get fast sugar out of my meals ... including flours and grains.

Meats and veggies! All my blood work numbers vastly improved.

I use dextrose around my workouts to great effect. I would hardly recommend exogenous insulin as a substitute because unless you consume enough carbs you risk a coma; Why not let your body do it naturally if you have normal insulin function. There is a huge difference between consuming dextrose during and after your workout Vs. all day long; Don't confuse the two. Timed Dextrose can be a powerful tool for the athlete.

wait. so is taking 3 full servings of INTERACTiVE NUTRiTION's MAMMOTH 2500 weightgainer going to be bad for me? im trying to bulk up, i understand some fat and water will come with the territory.

3 full servings per day =2910 CALS just from shakes. add another 1500 in from real food sources, to near 4500 per day. im only 151 lbs right now at 6foot3 ectomorph.

i heard from somebody that taking that many cals in (2910) per day just from shakes over a 3-4 month period COULD give you diabetes, is this correct.

i realy need the shakes for bulking, i really dont have the time to eat 6+ FULL meals a day. im training HARD 4 days per week sometimes 5. light cardio on occasion, will be starting some medium-intensity basketball soon probly also.

are these mammoth" shakes terrible? im trying to hit 200 lbs seriously. i deadlift, squat and benchpress and dont dick around in the gym. being 151 at 6 foot 3 just looks stupid and im fucking tired of it. i literally want to gain 50 lbs. i know i can worry about cutting / getting shredded after. i am also eventually going to do steroids again (i did a useless dbol cycle when i was 18.5 years old with little real training base or diet) please advise.

For a reasonably healthy person, a strategic and well timed hi glycemic "meal" will do no harm.

It is abuse that causes insulin resistance, and leads to type 2 diabetes. This is from a sedentary person. A well trained individual living the bodybuilding lifestyle(diet) does nothing but benefit from a well timed insulin spike.
