what equipment do you feel would be best for your gym, if you hasd th abuility to have one.

ive got a small space availible to be, about the size of a big car (i.e. i could fit a benz in there, its that sort of size, a small garage)

what would you buy

i was thinking

heavy bag, wall mounted
speed ball
makiwara, wall mounted
thai/thick leather skipping rope (for those shins :D)
leg stretching machine (a cheap one)
focus mitts
medicine balls
and maybe a wall mounted canvas bag or spring loaded kick pad on the wall

i've not used the stretcheing machine, makiwara and the kick pad before but they looked good

any thoughts on this choice, or is there something i missed. a floor to ceiling ball maybe, im concerned there wont be space for it

also i wont be the only one using the area, other martial artists, mainly kung fu and thai boxers, but with the odd boxer, capoeira etc dude coming along to

I"m trying to think of the stuff they have at the CFC... it's the headquarters for the Shidokhan fighting thingy.. :)

I know they have a ring there... they also have the kick bag, and they have the hand equipment that you can kick and punch (one guy holds it) --- they have some head gear they wear too... I'll be back in Chi-town ina month, I can look at their shit if you want me too. :)

thanks for offering but i have to get this stuff in 2 weeks otherwise i wont have the time :(

kick pads (like thai pads) might be a nice idea as opposed to focus mits as you can kick em too, might just go for em instead :)

You could put in a double end bag toward the center of the room. Fasten it permanently to the ceiling, and use a simple hook at the bottom attaching it to something heavy, so you can put the bag up(hung over a rafter, on a shelf, or simply unhook both ends) when you aren't using it. If you want to use it, you can just roll out the weighted object and stretch the bag down and hook the other end on it. I use a base for a patio umbrella because its heavy enough to keep it down, and built so I won't trip over the damn thing or stub my poor little toes.

I would recommend getting a Thai bag instead of a regular heavy bag. You can do so much more at so many ranges/heights and they don't sway very much since they're some damn big(which is nice in a tight area).

I assume you meant a makiwara dummy and not just board. Buying one is pretty damn expensive(around $500), but you can make one pretty easily for a few bucks and some time.

I've always had a cheap strech rack laying around and they work just as good as the machines and they cost under $50. Just buy the metal ones, not the PVC.

I'd find a couple mirrors too.

Are you going to pad the floor? If you do, that's the most expensive part. But, if you've got other guys training there, make them pitch in and it shouldn't be so bad.

And get a Bruce Lee poster dammit, or else it just isn't worth training in:)

no, i meant the board.....i didnt realise a dummy existed. is that kinda like the one the real daniel-san used in karate kid III when he punches it till he brekas it and he starts bleeding? how easy is it to make? i;ve never used the board before but karate people seem to have a hard on for it so i thought it would be nice

2 body height mirrors and the possibility of a big one, and two big crash mats, whihc i thought may be nice for take downs etc :) bruce lee poster will be included :D

and i'm not paying for any of this....and i get to use it whenever i want. :D
