best home cardio equipment for my girls butt and thighs

she has a very skinny upper body with a very thick/flabby lower body. she wants to firm up the lower 1/2 by adding muscle and hopefully burning lower body fat. that being said what would be the best home equipment for her?

we were thinking stairmaster. but we want to ask you girls first. i guess the other options are a treadmill, stationary bike, and one of those eliptical trainers that feel like cross country skiing.

Personally, I think the Schwinn Air-Dyne (it's a bike where you also row) is one of the greatest. I also like the Concept II rowing machine (great butt burner/builder), and the treadmill. Ellipticals are fine, but they're expensive for what they do (and I think boring). Step-mills (like a mini-escalator/treadmill) are awesome, but I hate the regular stairclimbers.

I know you asked about cardio equipment, but truthfully the best way to firm up and burn body fat is to build muscle. So if she doesn't already have at least a bench and weights, she should get those first.

Can't say it any better so I'll just agree.

I have to try this - I love to row.
Thanks.

I love my elliptical but don't use my treadmill much due to the fact that the the elliptical is silent and the treadmill is not. I watch TV while on the elliptical so it is only as boring as TV is. I have a 5:00pm date everyday with my elliptical and That 70's show :)

Versa Climber. You can get a used one for a few hundred. It's basically an old-school machiene that simulates mountain climbing. It works the entire body at once. You never see them in the gym anymore because they are not fancy or high tech but they get the job done fast.

5-8lb dumbells and LUNGES...doing those has done wonders for my butt, thighs, and that hard to lose fat near the inside of the knee.

They cn be done standing in place or walking....and by altering the back leg position you can target your glutes or inner thighs more...and if you cross the front leg over slightly it will reeeeeealllly hit and strengthen the inner thighs...the strength will also help to make that cardio less taxing....which we all know is necissary for losing that extra fat.

stair master may just add too much muscle under the fat, not a great idea for those who carry wt. in the lower body
treadmill is always great, but then again, you have a road/sidewalk right outside
eliptical might be used the most, therefore best bang for your buck
