A study in the Journal fo bone & Mineral Research found that men who consumed 2 beers a day had higher bone-mineral densities than those who didn't. Premenopausal women reaped the same rewards in the study but postmenopausal women did not. How does beer increase bone mass?? It's a good source of a form of silicon that is better absorbed by the body than other varieties, and the nutrient plays an important role in bone formation, researchers say.
Other sources of silicon include whole grains, coffee, & nonalcoholic beer.
