Hi:wavey:
I'm new here to the forum and also to getting back into lifting.
I just joined a gym and plan on getting started tomorrow early am.
I've seen allot mentioned on here about BCAA's. Could someone tell me
what they are and if I need them.
I'm 43,F 132 & 5'3". I want to lower my BF%(not sure what it is currently)
but I've been exercising 5-6X/week at home doing HIIT and weights. I can surely tell I'm getting tighter in areas and showing definition in my arms.

My game plan is to lift weights and then 20 min of HIIT cardio.
Should I eat before I go to the gym? I plan on having my protein shake immediately after. What other advice can you offer. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.
I appreciate all replies!!
Thanks in advance

Welcome!
The essential branched chain amino acids (BCAA's) are of special importance for athletes because they are metabolized in the muscle, rather than in the liver. Here's how this works: After digestion once protein is broken down into individual amino acids these aminos can either be used to build new proteins or be burned as fuel to produce energy.
So you see how benefitial they are.
I take 1 scoop of BCAA pre-worout and 1 scoop during workout. I never train without it..

The most effective way to burn fat is to do cardio on an empty stomach. Where as is best to eat a meal at least an hour before weight lifting. I personally eat breackfast about an hour before training. I first lift weights and do cardio thereafter.

Is it best to use the powder or the pill?
What would you recommend.
So if I'm lifting weights first thing in the morning, what should I eat?
I will then move right along to cardio after I lift.(20 min HIIT)

Thanks for your reply

I prefer in powder so they don't have to break down.

You can have oatmeat (carbs for energy) and eggs whites (protein to build).
I have 1/2 cup oatmeat (uncooked) and 3 eggwhites with 1 yolk. Eventually I get rid of the yolk.
Coffee or tea. I prefer green tea, which is an antioxidant.

Immediately after working out have a protein drink. this is best because it's faster to go into your system rather then having chicken, which needs to breakdown.
1-2 hour later then have breast of chicken with salad and brown rice.
Repeat the chicken with vegetables or sweet potato.
The last meal of the day shold be with vegetables/salad or just protein if you can handle it.

Have about 5 meals a day to start with. Keep a log of your meals so you know how many calories you're getting.
Protein/carbs/fat. CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more

Drink lots of water and train hard..

So I went to GNC to see if they had the BCAA's. They only carry the pill.
The guy said creadrive would do about the same. Yes or No?

How's everything working out?

GREAT!!
I started a new workout program at the gym I just joined & I'm really sore today in the chest.
I also tried that 888# you gave me but was unsuccessful. The # didn't was incorrect :(
I'm at work right now but will email you when I get home. I want you to critique my workout/food plan if you don't mind.
Catch ya later.

You are in good hands with Thandie but I wanted to stop in and say welcome to EF and the Women's Forum! Keep us posted on your progress!!

Thanks for the welcome ironwings;)

Thandie~ I'll have to try that # tomorrow. I'm sure they are closed by now.
So a little about me.
I'm 43, married 23 years, 2 boys ages 21/20(in March) At my heaviest I was 200lbs and lost the majority of it through weight watchers. I have been a lifetime member for for 17 years and now I'm stuck in a rut and board. It's not working anymore and I realize that it's not the weight loss I'm looking for it's the fat loss. I know through WW I won't achieve that.
So~ for the last 6-9 months I have been working out at home. It's been going real good. These last 2 months I have really been watching what I eat. I no longer eat processed foods, no artificial sweeteners, no caffeine, no sweets...All Natural and fresh. I don't smoke, drink and have a pretty boring life:p I have really enjoyed searching the internet and reading about clean eating and the glycemic index.
I recently had a physical and got the clean bill of health.
My cholesterol is 175
HDL 59
TRIGLYC 48
VLDL 10
LDL 106
CORONARY RISK "LOW"

So I joined a club and just started Monday.
Here's what I did. I'm really good with the names yet so forgive me.

Chest:
bench pressed 65 (bar + 2 10's)
peck fly machine (40#)
fly's(at an incline) 15#
push ups
Tri's
not sure of the name but it has the rope (20#)
lay on bench and have bar over head??
seated rows (60#)
These were 3 sets of 12
then 3 sets of 10
3 sets of 8
YES~ I can feel it today.
Tomorrow I am circuit training.
Please feel free to add any comments. I appreciate them!!

I'm so glad you joined a gym!
I'm out till late so I won't get to give you feed back till tomorrow.
You're doing great, however...
