Look biased to me but The Lancet is a "serious" paper

Low fat diets are just as effective as the trendy Atkins diet and have more scientifically solid evidence to support their long-term weight loss effects, write Danish doctors in tomorrow’s Lancet.

The review of current research found that people on Atkins-style low carbohydrate diets tend to lose more weight in the first six months. But they said weight loss for both groups is similar after 12 months.

In addition, they said more research on the long-term effects on health of the low-carbohydrate regime promoted by Atkins was lacking.

The Atkins diet has lead to the death of a few ignorant people.
Darwinism at work. If you're stupid enough to start the Atkins diet, I have no remorse for you.

I believe it... since carbs are a large part of our diets, if you cut them out, you're gonna lose weight... fat doesn't play a large enough role to result in huge weight loss right away...
But if you're sitting around on your ass all day and decide "Hey, I think I'll just stop eating one of the three macronutrients my body needs to be healthy so I can lose some weight"... shouldn't some red flags be shooting up that this is NOT the greatest idea?
