Atkins Bars

Hi guys!! I am frequently on the run and don't have time to make food or even stop at a deli! I tried the atkins bar in s'mores and I think it is delicious. Does anyone know what the deal is on these bars (I know that some protein bars are better than others). I try to follow a pretty low carb life as well so atkins is seemingly good. There is also 10 grams of fiber per bar and seeing as how i don' t get much fiber elsewhere, aside from salads, I am also partial to this bar. How does this bar stack up to other bars?

:fro:

The bros on elite will tell ya....real food is always your best option, etc., etc., and as long as you realize this, there isn't much harm in having a bar now and again. As you are aware - it's a matter of convenience - and what you gain in the convenience of a bar - you lose in other respects. The nutritional matrix of real food (the combination of nutrients and caloric macros, etc., and the way your body breaks them down and absorbs them) simply can't be replaced by a bar.

Having said that - Atkins makes a decent enough bar if low sugar is what you are after. I'm not positive of the ingredients but be wary of hydrogenated oils - and realize that too much sugar alcohol (things like maltitol, sorbitol, xylitol, etc., used to sweeten many of the low-carb bars) can give some people diarreha.

Well, there is no need for me to answer this one.

Yeah, what they said....

i would try to get ral food or a shake (i have a cup with a lid, sometimes just take that with powder in it and a bottle of water and shake and drink but sometimes, not always though, if i have no choice i have bars ... it's the lesser of two evils i guess

HOW ABOUT PENUT BUTTER?? keep a jar where ever you are, and a spoon, a big scoop is a few 100 calories, and they are good cals. takes less then 30 seconds for a meal.....:)

Thanks guys! I appreciate all your information!! I LOVE the bars. Seriously, they are delicious. I just have to look at them as more of a treat from now on because I can eat too many and I know that is NOT good!
Eurorides- you're advice on peanut butter is helpful too. Unfortunately I'm amoung the .5% of people who hates peanut butter :p :D

What the f... is hydrolyzed collagen? That's one of the ingredients.

They use sucralose as a sweetener. I love that stuff.

Collagen is essentially gelatin - it's the primary structural protein that makes up connective tissues (e.g., skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments). It is mainly derived from bovine, ox and pig skin and bone - pretty gross eh?

"Hydrolzed" collagen is simply a modified form of the protein which has been enzymatically broken down so as to make it easier to incorporate into foods (i.e., protein bars). It's generally considered to be a relatively cheap form of protein (in comparison to whey or casein for instance).
