are police reports considered public domain?

it is my understanding that police reports are considered to be public domain, thus making them accessible to anyone who requests a copy. is that true?

if so, how do i go about obtaining a copy of a police report against select individuals?

I think the local courthouse would be the place to start

seriously, you have no idea how far i am going to take this issue...you dont know the depths to which i will sink to prove my case.

call them and see.....Im pretty sure that legal judgements are stroed there

What issue?

If its a recent police report you can go to the actual police station and pay a couple bucks for a copy. Trust me, I know :(

just understand one thing my friend - the legal system is FAR from "fair". lawyers are not paid to prove the truth, they are paid to find the loopholes in the system and exploit them

Yes and you go to the police department and request a copy ref: accident, public disturbance, etc:, you will need the defendants or Plantiffs name and date of report.

Sometimes they make it difficult for you to get a copy, especially if you aren't party to it.

They are public, but getting a copy is another thing. Look up the sunshine law and how to put someone on notice for making it public - you have to put it in writing... you can get it with the right pressure.

Unless the case is closed, the only person(s) who can request and PAY FOR a copy of the police report are the individuals directly involved with the incident.

Call the DA in that county and they will direct you, people at the courthouse, are,

well

ah

government employees, they couldn't care less.

So call the DA even if he/she is a prick they will direct you correctly.

dame right and the more you pay them the more loopholes they can find.

Your lawyer can get it, you can't and won't no matter how hard you try or what anyone tells you, so proving your innocent of the "soliciting a prostitute" charge probabaly won't be in your near future.

yeah, and if you try to make a phone call expect to be on the phone for hours cause city employees are fucken stupid and/or dont care.
